Ryanair to charge for airport desk check-in

I see no announcement on their website about that.
I read that the Federal Aviation Authority issued the mandatory Airworthiness Directive on Saturday. I think possibly every one of Ryanair's aircraft has to be carefully checked and then it has to be checked regularly thereafter to make sure no punctured fuel tanks occur like we saw last week. I'd be very interested to know whether Ryanair has got started...I'll be flying on one next week and I shall ask the flight crew if they know or if they are gambling.Ryanair, said it had begun its inspections and that the process would not disrupt its operations.

I'm a little concerned with what happens to any bookings made before 20th September (which is when the Check-In fee is introduced) for flights AFTER that date - in theory, I shouldn't have to pay to check-in, but I'm going to see if the online check-in works before I turn up at the airport; I didn't select the online/priority check-in option when I booked as that was still showing a charge.
If I can't check-in for free online, I'm going to print off the press release stating the check-in fee appplies to new booksings made after 20th September and see if that gets me out of paying on the day - I'm only going to have a sports bag as hand luggage.

Yes, it is confusing, isn't it? ... I just made a booking for 2 months time which wanted to charge me (old-style) for online check-in/priority boarding £4.00 for a return flight, which I of course removed (in the time-honoured fashion
) ... So in 2 months time, I shall be queueing with no bags to check-in and I do not expect to be charged on the day and I do expect shorter check-in queues, but I suppose they will have halved the staff at check-in by then ... doh  0 -
As someone who regularly wastes valuable flights, by grabbing more than your (real) needs and simply not showing for the excess, you are hardly in a position to argue about lack of check in staff if you do decide to grace them with your presence Peter.0

What are you on about budgetflyer?? Are you on something this evening? You do seem to go through periods of sideswiping in between your more sensible posts!
Ryanair is not a charity, nor a scarce resource to be carefully husbanded for the benefit of all. 'Valuable flights' is also as much a complete misnomer as 'free flights' is in Ryanair's marketing  .
You surprise me ... you have obviously completely forgotten that Ryanair is not in the business of selling tickets to passengers, it's in the business of selling passengers to airports! It makes not one iota of difference to your pocket if I use a flight or not ... in fact it probably helps keep the prices even lower because the fuel burn will be that much less without my 140 kg and that's probably greener than letting someone else take my seat too!
So none of your totally misplaced moralising about wasted flights please! I am just doing my bit to save my sanity and the planet

Sorry... I know this must seem like a stupid question to some... I have read this thread and the links provided, but as I'm not familiar with this budget flying thing I can't understand what they charge at the moment and how this is changing.
Could anyone explain in layman's terms what's going on.
During the last Ryanair Sale I booked flights for this coming Monday (10th Sept). I declined all the extras so got each flight for 1p each way.
Am I right in saying that Web Check-in is charged at £2 now, but Desk Check-in is free - and they're basically swapping them round so Web Check-in becomes free and Desk Check-in is £2 after 20th Sept?
So, as my flights are before 20th Sept, does this mean I won't be charged for checking in the old-fashioned way at the desk?
The free Web Check-in sounds like a good idea but what happens when you're coming home on the return flight, and can't access the internet?
Apologies once again if these are dumb questions or if I've misunderstood something, but I find it all a bit confusing!
EDIT: Forgot to mention I'm only taking hand luggage, and not checking anything in.0 -

I am flying out on the 18th September and back in on the 21st. As I booked before the 20th September I am expecting not to pay at check-in. I will take copy of news item with me.SallyD0
