It's exploitation. You could do the work then tell HMRC they haven't paid you NMW and sue them. But that's a faff...

There is no excuse for a commercial business using free labour, they basically want slavery.

Besides how are you going to look for work if you are 'volunteering' for 40 hours a week?

disgusting , how can it be allowed
Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

In 6 weeks time the christmas rush will be over and all paid/unpaid christmas temps will be out of a job.

And Ebenezer Poundland will be tucked away in his dimly lit office counting his ill gotten profits, thinking not of the people he has exploited.

    This does not sound right.
I hate all these big organization, evading taxes, employing on banks with no contract whatsoever and now this no pay for 40hrs job.
    This is bad.
Surely they will need staff for Christmas season, and they should pay atleast NMW.
Don't take volunteer work for 40+hours.

    Sounds crazy.

Same scheme at the 99p shop but you pay 1p per hour to work?

If you're going to volunteer, at least volunteer for a good cause. Note I don't think many charities are good causes either, but that's not a discussion for this forum.

Yes, I agree totally with all that, but who do you think is allowing the companies such as Poundlad to exploit the unemployed - the GOVERNMENT.
Big companies are the largest donors and lobbyists to the Conservative party, and therefore have an unimaginable influence over what the GOVERNMENT are allowed to do with the unemployed.
I feel like a criminal when I go to sign on every two weeks, and I am treated as such by the G4S "security guards" who patrol the place.:(

I turn up early - about 10 minutes, and have been asked to wait until 1 minute to go.
So, I go up to sign on and have to wait another 30 - 45 minutes to sign on.
If the Jokecentre staff had to work in the real World they would be sacked on day 2.

There is no way that I would work for free for a commercial business.
If a job is worth doing then it is worth paying the NMW - at least.
This is exploitation pure and simple.
We've gone through this before Andy, I did notice you did not reply when I told you examples when working for free for a company is beneficial.

However, for poundland I do think its disgraceful how much they are abusing the system.

I could give you a job doing my gardening for six weeks, and I MAY give you a job at the end of it, then again I MAY NOT;)

I could give you a job in my London studio as a volunteer....

....but I've campaigned against unpaid internships, pay to play and everything else that exploits others, so I'd be shooting myself in the back, surely.

These work programmes are completely unreasonable, and you've seen that, I believe. Don't be fooled.
