hi hope someone can help
im trying to get a mortgage and just spoken to an advisor who recommended i check my credit score (which has always been good) only to find that its now only 617!
i had a problem with a well known mobile company and cancelled my contract, after some deliberation they agreed to cancel it (10 months ago) but on my credit report it is showing as none payments and says its 515 in default. if i phone them can they get this removed, if they still dispute it and i pay it will this improve my score?
how do i sort this mess out anyone please?
I also have over 30k debt and it says that it goes down after 30 so if i pay off some of it to take it under the 30 does anyone know what difference that will make and will it raise my score enough to get a mortgage

The score is irrelevant, it's only the information that matters. Get the phone thing sorted.0

What do you have in writing from the phone company confirming they have cancelled the contract - and did they write to say that it was done without need for you to buy yourself out of it?LBM July 2006. Debt free 01 Sept 12 .. :T

Going to have more of an impact on your mortgage application than a mobile phone contract dispute.
As far as a lender is concerned your debt will be the issue not your "credit" score. As lenders will score you themselves. Not use arbitary ratings that have no commercial value.0 -

im trying to get a mortgage and just spoken to an advisor who recommended i check my credit score (which has always been good) only to find that its now only 617! So what? It's only a randomly generated number with no real meaning.

Sounds like they didn't cancel it. You need to speak the them to find out what they may or may not do. In my experience, if it is Vodafone, do not expect any cooperation.

The £30K of debt is likely to be a problem though. What do you have in terms of a deposit?

i spent the day yesterday trying to sort this out, mortgage brokers are telling me i wont get a morgage as the lenders wont look at me if i have a default on my credit report- there are only a limited number of lenders who will give me a mortgage as im a foster carer and most lenders dont understand out finances
spoke to the comany (you guessed it mem62) they were less than helpful and told me they are sending me out a deadlock letter whatever that means, but they say they believe their records are correct and that they will not be removing it from my records
is there anything else i can do, i have been told to put in a formal complaint to the communication ombudsman but will this help although i have no idea how i even go about this0 -
If you didn't have the £30k of debt, I am pretty sure a default due to a dispute with a mobile company would be verging on irrelevant.
Where is your deposit coming from? What % is it?0 -

In practice, what this means is that you are allowed to take the issue to the ombudsman.but will this help0 -
The deadlock letter can also be used to add a note to your credit file showing the debt is in dispute.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.
