Will seem more of bargain when those 10 for a quid, probably out-of-date, and quite likely alkaline instead of silver oxide, batteries leak and destroy the circuit.
By all means save money with DIY battery changes, but please use a decent quality, properly branded, battery! From 20 years experience doing this professionally:
Seizaiken, Maxell, Sony all good - never seen leakage from these - , Renata ok but over-priced and seen a very few leak over the years, most others carry a (to me) unacceptable leak risk. Avoid Chinese (usually coded "AG 1", "AG3" etc), Rayovac, and alkaline (usually coded "LR xxx" like the plague - sooner or later they will kill your watch.0 -

HopelessCase, how about posting the make, model and possible a photo of the back of the watch. Possibly others here will have something similar?0
