Is £120 the cheapest fayre you've found? Our county do a daily/weekly/monthly unlimited bus/train/tram use pass that works out loads cheaper. It can work out more awkward when you cross counties though.
We have to take this into account with where our son is thinking of studying, he is the same age. Though there's a subsidised bus service from our village, if his timetable means he is finished a lot earlier in the day, am considering getting him a 16-25 railcard so he can catch the train home instead. The times and price sdon't work out for him to use this as a method to travel there though.
Its £415 a term or £1113 a year and that is subsidised through the college they want the money up front too. The college used to run a free bus service from my town to the main college but that stopped a couple of years ago. I will have to sort something.0 -
Just to alleviate your mind somewhat - I recently applied for discretionary funding for a family member who recently came to live with us to go to college and we received the full cost of the annual college bus fare and our income is substantially higher than yours.
Colleges have funds in place to support students who need it and our local college said assitance can be given up to an income level of £30,000.
Check out the college website for info on travel assistance or you could speak to the student services dept who should be able to give an indication of the help you may get. The good news is that you have a year to budget for the future costs and most colleges will allow you to spread the cost over a few months.0
