O/S Daily Thread Monday 9th November 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

HH – thinking of you, your hubby and family, hugs x

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

DH up gone to work. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him in a bit.

Now getting light, damp underfoot, but not raining.

Lunch yesterday was a cook from frozen roast chicken joint, pasta in a creamy mushroom sauce, peas and onion rings – not what I would normally cook on a Sunday but DH asked if we could have pasta – it’s no different prep time really. Tonight we’ll be having frittata, HM coleslaw, side salad, hot new potatoes.

Had a good time at the weekend, we didn’t let the weather stop us enjoying ourselves, we took DS2 to the college open day Saturday morning and the lecturers and facilities were brilliant and he seems really keen to do that particular course, so he needs to get his head down to get the results needed to get on the course. He was able to apply online whilst at the college, so we’ll be getting a letter/email offering him an interview at some point in January. The course he wants to do is based in a newly built department at the local college – it’s really state of the art and really good facilities. Then visited my parents, came home, had some lunch then went back to the caravan, chilled with books/tv and then our friends came back so they came and sat with us for a while, the rain stopped early afternoon and we actually had some sunshine although it was blustery. Our friends bbq their dinner of burgers and hot dogs – we had the same but I cooked ours in the caravan, by this time it was dark and the wind had died off and it wasn’t cold so we were able to stand outside and we watched fireworks from 5 different directions – 2 were displays, 1 of which was excellent and obviously a lot of money’s worth, we paid less to be away for 2 nights and watch all those fireworks than it would have cost us to watch 1 of the organised displays. We did feel a bit sorry for the site owner as people had booked and he’d done a special price deal for this weekend then had cancelled – I think the weather didn’t help, it was rather wet and muddy.

Back to work today I’m not sure what sort of day we’ll get.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Wet and VERY windy this morning! No washing to do, DW emptied and house tidy.

Elona - Congrats on the house sale, hope you find somewhere suitable soon but make sure it's the right house for you.
HH - Hope MIL had a settled night and you managed some rest.

Builders coming this morning to fix the cracked tiles in the downstairs bathroom, painter coming to finish off in the upstairs bathroom - good job I trust them with a key! I also have someone from the tile supplier coming to look at the upstairs bathroom tiles at 6, I'm not happy with them and they cost a lot of money!

Meeting some friends after work so that's dinner sorted, hm soup for packed lunch.

Have a good week. Take care. XX

    Morning everyone.

I had a good day yesterday, the IV standardisation went well and dinner with some of my family was delightful.

My train back to Glasgow is at 11.15am so I'm just about to have breakfast. I won't get back to my car until about 9.00pm tonight so it's another long day ahead.

The forecast for my area is awful so I'm so glad that I'm not driving up that road in the dark. Hopefully the Rest will remain open.

    Anyway, happy Monday everyone.

    Morning all,

No rain here atm but the sky looks full of it, off to work for me (why do weekends go so fast) at the busier site today.

Dinner tonight will be roast pork belly (roasted yesterday) with wedges and roasted tomatoes, looking forward to that.

I need to order a couple more xmas presents tonight, although I have no idea what to get my sister who really is the most difficult to buy for.

Need to post the ebay parcels tonight too, we had a really good weekend on there.

Hope al goes well for Mr TA today xx

    Hester thinking of you xx

Elona congratulations on the house sale xx

    Have good days all xx

Scampi is doing great with me on his walks but really plays up for mr tru. He asks what I do, I tell him then he ignores it. Got no sympathy, it's his own fault.

I have a lovely clean kitchen carpet. I was mortified when I saw the state of the water it'd sucked up, so I went over it again :D

There was a brilliant pink sky out the front earlier, huge dark cloud out the back. It didn't take long for the cloud to take over and now it's gloomy everywhere.

Apart from a walk this morning, I'll be staying indoors doing the boring jobs – cleaning the fridge, filling up tea and coffee etc. jars, emptying bins, cleaning the bathroom...... Hope your day is more interesting than mine :D

    Good morning everyone

Not sure what the weather is like this morning as the blinds are still shut. Hubby has gone off to work and the girls are getting ready for school.

Thinking of Hester and TravellingAbuela and Mr TA this morning.
Well done Elona on selling your house. I hope you manage to find somewhere lovely to live.

I sat and read a lovely book on my Kindle last night. It was a very Christmassy story which lifted my mood a bit. I also have the last Terry Pratchett book to read but I'm saving that as there won't be any more.

Just going to put some baking potatoes in for tea tonight to have with some pulled pork and beans. I don't really feel like cooking as such.

Hope you all have a good day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning all,

Back to being on my own again as hubby and Youngest have arrived on site. I'll see them Friday. With hubby here I was able to forget how weak and vulnerable I am on my own and worrying myself sick over a son who refuses to help himself.

House looks like a bomb site. Nothing has been put away all weekend and there's mud trodden through the kitchen and hall from the men's boots.

Tried to talk to hubby last night about things in our marriage I wasn't happy with. The only response I could get out of him was that he loves me...of that I had no doubt but what about the things I'm unhappy about? I got no response.

Hubby hasn't said but I know he's concerned about how much I'm doing for Mother and how much it's costing him. Its my brothers role really but it obviously doesn't concern him that Mom's slippers have gone missing and her feet are always cold.

Hester I hope you get some support for the FIL.

Lots to do today but I'm not starting yet

    Onwards and forwards,

    Have a great day all.

  • Good morning all. Yesterday afternoon we had rain of biblical proportions , fortunately short-liveD, because in that short time everything was awash, the gutters and drainage systems couldn't cope with such a flood, quite spectacular.
Today am working at home, avoiding the £2.20 I would spend on bus fare to work (after 9.30 it is free for me but I am usually at work before 8) so am hoping it is not going to be cold so that the heating will not be needed.
Will be wearing layers and thermal socks.

Binmen have just picked up the bags, I often think about this service, took it entirely for granted for so many years, and yes of course it has to be paid for but how good is that, all rubbish taken away and dealt with. Not that we generate a lot of rubbish really as we recycle what we can but still.

Love to those who would like it/accept it from a quite new person and especially to those going through difficult times.

This post is fuelled by insomnia and toast with marmite.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
