I sense you have a bad attitude and for that reason I think you did bring it on yourself. The reason for this is because his friend (who out of all of you seems to have behaved perfectly appropriately) is referred to by you as "Knuckle dragging". I don't see why this person deserves the description as being sub human.

You may be a bad seed.

You sense i have a bad attitude so i deserved it? lol i have got to hand it to you i actually do not know how to respond to such a ridiculous statement.

On your point regarding the knuckle dragging friend, i refered to him as such due to the comments he made whilst dragging his mate away which were broadly in line with his pals veiws, granted that may not have been clear to you from my post.

And that person also has no right to call anyone out for not wearing a poppy as do you.

You seem all Britain first, you do. Patriot. LOL

Funny I was going to mention Britain First in my post but decided against it :rotfl:

Yes I must be British first as I don't believe calling people Knuckle Draggers is acceptable vocabulary!

I forget how bad people on the internet can be ;)

Frankly, it is you who has the bad attitude.

OP explained the conversation. OK, the description of the characters involved may be coloured by the situation, but at base, there are no grounds to challenge someone for not wearing poppy.

    You compound this with:

You brought this on yourself. Someone asked you where your poppy was and you made a statement of I don't wear a poppy. That led to someone giving you a verbal dressing down.

If you don't understand why that behaviour wasn't appropriate then I don't think we have much more to discuss on this thread!
Firstly, how should he have answered someone asking where his poppy was? What lies should he have told? Should he have refused to answer? He told the truth and there is no shame in that.

Secondly, his behaviour was not inappropriate. Even the RBL effectively support that. He has given a full account here of why he takes his stance and as an Englishman, I respect his reasons [it looks like there is more shame coming to our nation out of that]. He went to the cenotaph to have his own quiet thoughts and shame on those who interrupted that. It is a shame that what could and should have been a unifying time was made divisive.

As for having nothing more to discuss, it is more a case of if you do not understand, then there is nothing left to discuss.

I don't like the phrase Knuckle dragger in any context to be honest. Especially not to refer to someone at a remembrance day memorial service!

fair enough you dont like that phrase, especially when referring to someone at a rememberance day service, seems strange though that you seem to have no problem with people using expletives and bigoted phrases whilst actually at the service, why is that?

I wasn't actually referring to you I was referring to the person who shouted at the OP

Unfortunately a lot of that kind of following like to voice their opinions at public events in the manner of which the OP advised but as I had previously said we should not make judgements I choose to leave that observation out

I am not in contact with the other people at the service. If they posted on a board like this with a description of what happened and how they acted I would be equally critical of them.

I think both of you have acted terribly and my opinion of you has only got lower as you have introduced more information which has made clear that you believe certain people are sub human.

I count myself lucky that I don't know anyone involved in this situation socially

I think both of you have acted terribly Can you just clarify in what way i acted terribly at the service? and my opinion of you has only got lower as you have introduced more information which has made clear that you believe certain people are sub human.

I count myself lucky that I don't know anyone involved in this situation socially glad there is something we can both agree on

Apologies to anyone else reading this as its all got a bit petty and totally not what i was wanting to get into!!

Very interesting comments about 'Poppy Fascism,' a phrase which is new to me.
  • Going to the Cenotaph without one seems to me to be like, I don't know, going to a Beatles appreciation event with a t-shirt saying "The Beatles were overrated". I'll defend your right to do so, but you need to accept that in doing so you are making a statement. Why would you want to go there and make such a statement? And if you do go there and make such a statement you need to expect others to disagree with your statement.

    Sorry that's absolute crap.

Your Beatles analogy would be like me turning up at remembrance service with a Tshirt saying I hate squaddies or saying they aren't really heroes.
The way things are going, soon we are all going to be victims of something or other.

    Who will we blame then?
