Remember is that credit balance with an up to date reading.
Edf software does produce quick balances if you input readings.

That's the balance after I updated the readings today.

And what happens to my credit with EDF if I do that?

EDF will settle up any credit after the final meter reading is sent to them via BG..You will be starting with BG at the time of year when the big gas bills come in so you wont have any build up of credit in their coffers. Just make sure to get the kwhr yearly usage correct..You have a large credit build up with EDF which is good coming into winter but it seems too high, indicating you have nt got your yearly usage correct with EDF. I m surprised they have nt sent some back and lowered your monthly DD by now..Sainsburys were pretty quick to lower mine when I was overpaying this year.

    The kwhr yearly what?

Sorry, I'm not smart with my gas/electric, yet!

when you fill in MSEs comparison site details they will ask you for your usage. Its always best to arm yourself with a full years kwhrs for both gas and electric before visiting a comparison site.Gas and electric are priced in kwhrs..the BG collective deal for me in my area was 2.6 p/kwhr gas and electric was 8.2 p/kwhrs. BG s standing charges are on the high side at 26 p a day tho but the comp site will do the sums and offer up the top deals. Some companies are too unreliable for me and I would nt dare go with them.I always stick to Eon/EDF /or BG/Sainsburys..they seem to be quite reliable

On your latest EDF bill/statement you will see a section something like this:
    edf_estimate.jpg
Both gas and electricity are billed in KiloWattHours or kWh. The above is from my last statement and their estimate of my forthcoming electricity usage is a bit higher (about 14%) than my own, which has proved pretty accurate in the past, but it's a reasonable figure. Interestingly, their estimate for my gas usage is about 5% lower than mine.

OK, so I updated usage with the annual consumption estimates from my last EDF bill (2nd October 2015) and now it says I could save £209 if I switch to British Gas.

You have a few weeks before the MSE BG collective offer ends.I jumped in and grabbed it without hesitation, because I favoured BG for the exit fee waiver.Others are hanging on for an even better deal.Factor in the £30 cashback with MSE and its win win for me. Ideally you could do with an EDF collective offer to appear to save on any exit fees you have.

SFAIK, the EDF+PricePromise tariffs are supposed to tell you when it would be cheaper to switch. As others have said, the best thing is to look at your last 12 months bills/meter readings and see how many kWh's of gas you used, and how many kWh's of electricity, over the year just gone. Then look at BG's prices per kWh and calculate an annual cost for the same amount of energy consumption (the price per kWh will be different for each fuel). Add the annualised standing charges for each fuel (the standing charges may or may not be the same for each fuel) and you will have created your own estimate for the next 12 months energy costs. Do the same calculation using the prices of your EDF tariff, and see how much difference exists between the two totals.

I've only just switched to the 'Price Promise' tariff but there's no exit fee so that's not an issue.

I only seem to have two bills from last year, is that right? And I'm not sure where to find exactly how much energy I used?

I don't have any exit fees with my current tariff...

Can I still get the BG exit fee waiver?
