Returning Faulty Item

Hello,
In April I bought a new TV from Argos and as part of the deal I received a "free" sound bar. The sound bar wasn't in stock when I ordered the TV so it was ordered and after a week I collected it and was given a till receipt which reads 'Total - 1 item - £0.00'
The sound bar never was much cop to be honest, but now it has stopped working completely and I've had to unplug it from the TV otherwise the TV is silent. Where do I stand with regards to a refund or exchange given that according to the receipt I didn't pay anything for it in the first place?
Thank you.

Well, it could be argued that the TV and soundbar were one package, so your SOGA rights are unaffected by the zero value receipt.
The problem you may have though is that as you made the purchase in April you're now beyond the first 6 months so Argos could require you to prove (by paying for an independent report) that the fault was inherent, and to be honest if it worked and now doesn't then it may well not have been. You'll have to weigh up the cost of the report vs the risk of it not supporting your claim, it might be easier just to buy another soundbar, although try the free option of going back to Argos and asking if they'll do anything first.0 -
Is there a manufacturer's warranty with the sound bar? If so, it may be simpler just going down that route and contacting the manufacturer.0

The OP doesn't need to mention SOGA or buy another soundbar, this problem will be covered by the one year guarantee that was offered on the day of sale.0 -

Well not being a mindreader or able to see through walls I wasn't aware of the warranty offered to the OP, but presumably you can back up your statement having made it so decisively.0 -
Thank you Zandoni 0

No, I thought I'd ask you wonderful people here first so that I'd be going in fully informed 😊0 -
Hi,
you no doubt still have the original receipt for tv, so take that with you as well, indeed it may well have details of soundbar offer on it.0 -

I would have thought that everyone knows most big retailers offer a one year guarantee on most of their products.0
