O/S Daily Thread Sunday 8th November

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all
DW emptied, WM chugging away, I have beetroot cooked, I need to slice it and put it in jars with some pickling vinegar. I also have some quinces that need turning into quince jelly and some damson gin that needs straining & bottling. Once the gin is bottled the damsons need turning into boozy jam.
None of these things are getting done just yet, I'm struggling to keep on top of washing, shopping and cooking at the moment. I have one pack of minced beef and some white fish in the freezer along with some veg from the garden.
I shall phone the hospice in a while to see how MIL is doing, we will visit later today unless she has already gone.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Good morning, Hester am thinking of you and your MIL.
I have work to do today and will get on with that later. Need to muck out sitting room, sort out my knitting basket and my yarn boxes.Friend coming over later.
Washing done but weather report fearsome.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning everyone from West Bromwich. My journey here was long but comfortable and I enjoyed it. Hotel (PI) is fine, just as expected really though I've had an excellent cooked to order breakfast. It tasted so much better than a help yourself one.
My 'working day' starts soon and I have dinner with one of my nephews this evening to look forward to.
My nod to MSE yesterday was using my free bus pass, nothing like that today unfortunately.
HH - the waiting is sometimes as bad as the outcome.
TA - have a good trip to Liverpool, hope it's all smooth.
Happy Sunday everyone.0 -
Good morning all, thank you HH for starting us off. I imagine there isn't much sleep being had in your home at the moment.
I have been thinking about you all a great deal and just hope everything is over soon for you all. Your dear MIL is probably not aware of much now but I wish her peace for her journey and understanding from her family. I know you will look after and support your DH, but who is going to look after you? Take very good care of yourself Hester, it may hit you when you are least expecting it.
Nothing much planned today, the WM is on, but I think the TD will have to be used, the weather doesn't look promising and it rained constantly yesterday.
TA good luck to you and DH tomorrow, I hope everything goes well for him.
Love and hugs to you all, so many seem to need it at the moment

Morning one and all. Fine at the moment here but forecast to change. Just been watching last night's Strictly on IPlayer instead of jobs neglected yesterday.
We had a very enjoyable afternoon/evening yesterday. DGDs Gala Performance evening at the Alhambra was enjoyed by all. We were so proud of her. Despite being one of the youngest she didn't put a foot wrong and the beaming smile never left her face. All the hours and hours of rehearsal time by them all weren't wasted. (And I had forgotten what a beautiful theatre the Alhambra is) The pre-theatre meal was OK but it was one of these ultra modern restaurants with ultra modern menus to match. Not really my style though the younger people enjoyed it!
Today the dreaded day has arrived and we leave for Liverpool at lunchtime. Mr TA has to be at the hospital at 9.00 tomorrow morning for his new therapy to start. It doesn't come without risk and side effects and, of course, I am worried. He has been so much better since going on the Oramorph and back on his injections and I would hate to see him back to how he was in the summer. He has to stay in overnight and Tuesday another scan before he is discharged in the afternoon. I'll stay on at the hotel till then.
We are going on the train but have assured DS I will ring him if Mr TA's not fit to come back by train. He can't understand that we actually prefer trains to motorway journeys. Plus there is no time difference between the two. I shall pack us a nice lunch up to have on the train and then we'll eat out (or in the hotel) early evening.
Have a good day all (((((HUGS))))) if needed and I'll post on our return, unless I take lappy with me. Take care all and thinking of you and MIL HESTER xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all, get well wishes to those folk who are poorly, thoughts with those who are going through such hard times.
Hester - as others have said its so important to look after yourself at this time, those little things can wait.
Today is much brighter and at the moment at least dry, girls walked and now enjoying first cuppa of the day.
We are picking up my DM and driving her to her brother's as they are off in a week long coaching holiday tomorrow, we are staying for lunch and will be lovely to catch up with my DU. Mum's mobility has improved since new medication reduced swelling on her legs, let's just hope they get a bit of dry weather so can do a bit of exploring the SW coast.
Wishing everyone a peaceful Sunday x0 -
Lest we Forget
Morning All
Dry here at the moment but the forecast isn't good again, it rained most of yesterday but at least I got some jobs done inside. Baked a couple of banana loafs, a fruit cake and some sunshine shorties, most will go to DD!
I also cleaned what I hope is the last of the dust from the cupboard under the stairs, horrible gritty stuff that gets everywhere and has been falling through the gaps in the stairs. The cupboard is a huge walk in one where I keep stuff I don't know what to do with, various pots, pans and dishes and also has a shelf of foodstuffs. Managed to declutter a load of things, why do I need 5 thermos flasks? They are all in the bin and I will get a new one.
HH - Love and hugs to you, DH and your MIL.
TA - Safe trip and hope all goes well tomorrow.
Taking a friend to DDs this afternoon, the chest of drawers is already in the car, a neighbour gave me a hand with it - not looking forward to the prospect of carrying it up 2 flights of stairs! I've no doubt DD will want to go to the SM but I have to collect something for school from Arg0s and they close at 6 so need to be back before then.
TD on just finishing off what was on the airers overnight, DW emptied so I had better get on with a few things.
Enjoy Sunday if you can. Take care. XX0 -
Good Morning all x
HH take care of yourself as well as those around you x Hugs x
Gers it always tastes better when you dont have to cook and wash up after x
Well went to see my bone puller yesterday and after cracking my neck a few times and a deep tissue massage i feel slightly better. It seems i have bones in my spine that are out of alignment and that was causing the pain and dizzy spells. Well will see him again next sat for round 2.
DD2 did stay out all night so just waiting for her to stumble home lol.
didnt get much done after my visit yesterday cause i just felt too washed out but will get more done today.
DW on . Need to finish drying the washing and put more on (sure the washing basket has it in for me lol) going to bake a coffee cake today and tackle the ironing pile.
Anyhoo better get on
Hugs to all in need xxBright Blessings xx0 -
Good Morning everyone, another grey day here but not raining and with a nice breeze that means I'll be able to put the washing currently in the machine out to dry. The village is closed off until lunchtime for the Remembrance Day parade and church service and I can hear the pipe band limbering up down by the shore, they will march to the church with the veterans and uniformed services for the 10.30 service, it's a good thing I think to keep in the publics eye the sacrifices made by people we never knew, in this self centered age it is a very good thing to know that selfless acts have allowed us our lives today.
We had some fireworks last night, not masses and very few of the great thumping bangers that have been in the past but mainly really pretty ones that sparkle and light up the sky. There were some after midnight a way away but no real disruption and I am so pleased that my darling Docky didn't have to be scared and desparately trying to escape, I miss him so!
HESTER as we all do I hope for a peaceful and painless ending for your dear MIL and for you to know that although we don't know one another in real life all who post here are wrapping you, your DH and MIL and the rest of the family in our love and caring and will stand vigil with you through this so difficult time. You're never truly alone lovey, we may not be there in person but I know I'm not alone in having you fairly constantly in my thoughts. Stay strong, I know you will, and we'll stand with you through it all and after for as long as you need us. Take care of yourselves, Lyn xxx.0 -
