I've nothing in my loft. If your loft isn't VERY easily accessible, with good/proper lighting and/or a Velux window and good flooring ..... it's best to never, ever, ever go there or put anything up there.

Mine is empty. Except for the new loft insulation.

It WAS full of dead mice, old birds' nests, badly laid boarding, old pipe insulation, a Fenn trap, old wine crates and a lot of mouse poo...

The builders hoovered up the mouse poo and removed the cobwebs before they put the new insulation in :D

I think the worst thing i had in the loft was a bike. I had this foldup bike in the loft of my last house gathering dust for about 25yrs. Then when i moved here about 8yrs ago what did i do ? I brought it with me and put it in the loft here.
But iy has gone now, to a young girl on Freecycle.

  • we dont have a loft thankfully (ground floor flat). Knowing my DH, it would be full of 'stuff' in weeks.

Clearing out his father's loft made me determined we wouldn't have one even if we leave here! What does someone need 24 caravan seat cushions for?

WOW - I would love to see the size of caravan THEY came from! :rotfl:
  • Our loft has three mouldy old lampshades, left by the previous owner and too far away from the hatch to reach - you need to be very bendy to get fully into our loft! So, they can stay there.

We have not put anything up there at all, and it is a blessed relief!

Am so glad I am not the only one with undiscovered "treasures" ha ha up there.

Anyway, when OH went up the attic foldown stairs to put Mum's bits up there safely, he said there is a lot of stuff up there do you know what it is?

I laughed, he came down the attic stairs, and that was that! For another day.

We have an attic room that is full of all sorts of things.

A few weeks ago sorted out several bags of clothes, mainly the children's and took them to cash for clothes.

Still got a cot bed in there, bunk beds, etc. need to get around to doing something with them.

I hate to throw things away, but will happily give to someone who can make use of them, but it is finding them that is the problem. Everyone wants new.
  • We impulsively took advantage of free loft insulation too. Then thought what the hell have we let ourselves in for!! Years and years full of clutter to get down first. An awful lot got chucked, pictures & ornaments got sent to the CS and the ""kids (then 40 & 42) were given an ultimatum over all their long forgotten toys and school books up there - take them or they get binned! We now just have the Christmas stuff up there and, in the winter, all the stuff we bring back from the caravan for storage till the spring.

The garage, sadly, is a different story! There's barely room left in there for the car!

  • Having cleared out my then MIL's loft twice, my mothers loft & my grandfathers, there is nothing in my loft apart from insulation I refuse to use it for storage.
