    Hi,

I bought a Netgear internet router from Currys but when I tried to install it, I couldn't connect to the Internet without my ISP Username and Password from Sky. After telephoning Sky they say they can't give me this information and I now need to return the router currys. I expect that the offer of a refund is highly unlikely as it has been removed from its packaging but do you think they would maybe at least offer a credit note?
I wasn't to know that this particular brand of router would require this information and I definitely didn't know Sky wouldn't give this out.

    Many thanks

    Dave

No, their returns policy is perfectly clearly set out below. Even if you are within the 21 days, you've opened the packaging. No refund and no credit note. No point in buying from PCW and expecting any after sales service.
Put it on eBay 'as new'.

'An unwanted product can be returned within 21 days of delivery as long as it's still in original, unopened packaging.

Returns and exchanges can only be processed with proof of purchase. This can be the sales receipt, a bank statement or an online sales invoice.

You cannot return unwanted items after 21 days of purchase, nor can you return items that have been used.

In accordance with your rights when you purchase goods online, unwanted products can be returned open so long as you let us know you want to return them within 14 calendar days from the day after delivery. They must include all original packaging, be in ‘as new’ condition and must not have been used, installed or had any data input on them.

Items delivered direct from the Manufacturer cannot be returned to one of our stores'.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • it is quite easy to get your username and password from the router that sky supplies, they like to hardcode it into the router but its actually easy to get :) i have been using my own routers since 2008 with sky

Perhaps read what the OP says before posting advice that can't be followed.
Unfortunately I don't have the router as it got broken. I would have tried using Wireshark to find this information out but obviously I can't do it now :(

    1) No refund - Currys have done nothing wrong.
    2) I am sure someone at Sky would be able to tell you your username/password, if you manage to get through to the right person. As suggested, why not tell them your router is faulty and you need a new one?
    3) Wireshark wouldn't tell you the information you need.

i did read the reply, the op could always ask sky for a replacement could he not, then he could extract the info he wants.

also why did you single out my particular reply to the ops thread?

    C_Mababejive reply 3 same info

bris reply 5 same type of info supplied in their reply

as for your reply post 11 your advice is to switch isp because of the trouble they will have.....seriously

I picked you out because the others posted before the OP said that the router was gone because it was broken, but you posted after that. If you can't understand the concept of linear time that's hardly my fault.

Changing ISP just gives the OP another option, perhaps they could save money and/or get a better service by switching.

I believe Sky force you to use their router in the terms and conditions hence the username and password is hard coded in - if you're technically minded there is a guide on t'Google that walks you through using wireshark to find the information you need.
