Currys Router Return

Hi,

I bought a Netgear internet router from Currys but when I tried to install it, I couldn't connect to the Internet without my ISP Username and Password from Sky. After telephoning Sky they say they can't give me this information and I now need to return the router currys. I expect that the offer of a refund is highly unlikely as it has been removed from its packaging but do you think they would maybe at least offer a credit note?
I wasn't to know that this particular brand of router would require this information and I definitely didn't know Sky wouldn't give this out.

Many thanks

Dave

I am not a techie but I doubt whether ANY router could connect to your ISP without knowing your username and password?

Sky must have some sort of system where they can give the information to you - presumably you pay for the broadband service?

I can't see Currys, particularly Currys, giving you a refund in these circumstances. It isn't their fault that you don't know your own details and have, thus far, been unable to retrieve it.

Its true..sky only want you to use the router they supply but it is perfectly possible to extract the username and pw combo from your sky router and set up almost any router to work on sky. I know, ive done it.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Do you not still have the Sky router? The information you need is on a label stuck on there. It will also be on a little card in the box.

Is it definitely your connection you're trying to connect to? I can't work out how you don't have this information.

No that is only your wireless password. Your username and password is hidden in sky routers.

As already said it is however easy to find it. Just google

"insert your router model here" how to extract my sky user name and password.

    Simples.
  • Unfortunately I don't have the router as it got broken. I would have tried using Wireshark to find this information out but obviously I can't do it now :(

Take a visit over to the forums on http://www.skyuser.co.uk/ you may get some help in setting up third party routers to work with Sky Broadband.

If the Sky router is broken/failed and you still have a Sky account, why not ask them to replace their failed router?

Given that you're going to experience this issue with any router except a replacement from Sky might it be an option to switch to another ISP and use the new router that you've bought?
