Cancel at end of contract and set up new contract - is this wise?

I'm at the end of my 2 year contract with O2 and plan to upgrade, however the deals on offer are identical to what a new signup would get.

TopCashBack are offering £63 cashback for a new contract, is it sensible to cancel my contract and set up a new one with the same company to get the cashback?

If it's with the same company, usually the main problem is keeping your number.
However, AFAIK, O2 is the only provider allowing internal transfer of the number from the old contract to a new one. If this is correct and you do want to keep your number, you have to do this before the old contract is terminated.

If I am wrong and they refuse to transfer, you can port the number in two steps via another network PAYG sim, but this will take some time and might cost you a compulsory minimum topup.

Thanks grumbler - the contract is up and I've let it slide on for another month, so I'm toying with the idea of cancelling it and then signing up the very day after it ends - just renewing gets me the exact same deal, minus the cashback. Loyalty isn't rewarded much!

Loyalty is for suckers...new customers will always get the best deals. Why discount for people who aren't going to leave?
