Application Advice - Addresses

in Credit cards
So I've been rejected a few times over the last few years for both credit cards/current accounts. Before I apply again, I thought I'd come here to ask for some advice. Over the last 7 years, I've pretty much moved house every year (renting due to university and a couple of years since). I was wondering what addresses I should put on applications? I've recently put myself on the local register. My two current accounts are registered to parent's address - how does that impact things? I'm hoping this is the problem and the reason why I'm getting rejected... I've applied for Halifax Clarity and Santander 123 so far, but thinking I should downgrade expectations!

I'm guessing you weren't on the electoral roll at your previous addresses? That is a big factor in lender's decisions, so that'll definitely affect the decision they come to.
Lender's look for stability from a person, so if you're moving house every year that's going against you. Try to stay in one place and build up a bit of stable address history.Friendship is like peeing on yourself. Everyone can see it, but only you can feel the warm feeling that it brings0 -
At this time of year, ie the annual canvas of electors, the CRAs won't be updated with your ER status until December, so as far as the credit search is concerned you are still not on the ER.
Better to have everything registered to the one address, so if you'll still be moving around a bit get on the ER at your parents address (why did you even come off it there?). Alternatively, if you've now put down some roots then get your address changed with the banks to match the new ER details.0 -
I think you have a multitude of potential issues which together are having an effect on your ability to get credit.
Multiple registered addresses
not being at the same place for long
not being on the electoral roll at your address until recently which takes a while to be updated on credit files (Where you on the electoral roll at previous addresses),
being rejected also has an impact, well at least the application search does
and that is before any potential credit company takes into consideration how you have managed money over the years.0 -
Thank you all for your responses.
I'm not sure where I was on the ER in the past. Is there a way of finding this out?
Any advice on what addresses I should put on applications? Should I just put my parent's address and not mention others?
I ran the Experian credit check for a month and my score was 999/999 so I do believe it's addresses/lack of credit history that's holding me back!0 -
The '999' score means nothing. It's pointless.
If your current accounts are registered to your parents address and you are on the ER at another address, when/if you apply for something, the lender will address link your parents address to your current address on your credit files. This may or may not affect your application.
Ideally you should have all your bank/credit card accounts registered to one address and be on the ER for that same address. Once that is done and it's showing as such on all 3 of your credit files, then probably wait a further 6 months because time is the only thing that will help your credit history and if you are newly registered on the ER it shows address instability, hence why most lenders want to see the last 3 years of address history.
Your ER history only shows up on your credit files.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly, and I can move and merge threads there. Any views are mine and not the official line of moneysavingexpert.com0 -
So I recently changed my ER address, can I cancel this and change it back? Is there a way of finding out what my ER history of addresses is?0
