Tesco would not match 25% off 6 bottles of wine

Sainsburys currently have a promotion of 25% off 6 or more bottles of wine. I went to Tesco and chose Mcguingans Red wine which was exactly the same brand as Sainsburys and was priced as 2 bottles for £10 This meant with the 25% of 6 bottles it works out as £3.75 a bottle. However despite Tesco's large publicity that they would match other Supermarkets branded goods including offers, they refused to match the 25% off 6 bottles of exactly the same wine and would only match the 2 bottles for £10. Have I misread the small print or should have Tesco matched Sainsburys in this instance.

You have to buy 10 different items to qualify.
It says that non-grocery items are excluded so wine may be, I'm not sure. They explicitly state that tobacco is out but don't mention alcohol.0 -
Unfortunately, the MSE news article mentions it won't match category wide promotions such as that wine offer. However, it won't price match store-specific offers, clearance goods, meal deals, category-wide promos such as 'buy six bottles of wine and get 5% off', money off discounts such as a £5 off £40 shop, or coupons/vouchers and products that give you extra free, such as 50% extra free.0

Why Tesco have decided not to match wine promotions seems strange. Especially as wine comes up as groceries when you look on the Tesco web site. Perhaps they might offer 25% discount for 6 bottles of wine themselves.0

It not only wine. I purchased some Baxters soups which were 50p in Asda but when at the checkout it came up as the advertised priced of £1.05. I queried the price but they would not budge, so I did not purchase the items. it just makes nonsense of Tesco claim of price matching.0

As far as I know the saving is calculated after all your items have been put through the till. This is because the price guarantee is based on all the branded items you buy. Tesco refers to this as "comparable Branded Basket".
So, Andrex toilet paper might be 50p more expensive at Tesco and Nescafe coffee 70p cheaper. This means that Tesco would calculate that a "comparable Branded Basket" was 20p cheaper when purchased from them.
https://secure.tesco.com/BrandGuarantee/TermsConditions:If your comparable Branded Basket would have been cheaper at Asda, Morrisons[1] or Sainsbury’s, we’ll deduct the difference (or the maximum Tesco Brand Guarantee limit of £20) off the price of your shop before you pay and show you what we deducted on your receipt. If your comparable Branded Basket was cheaper at Tesco, your Tesco Brand Guarantee receipt will tell you by how much (again against the cheapest competitor). It will also tell you if it was the same.
Baxters soups 50p wouldn't flash up at the till.0 -
so , if the major 6 supermarkets offer a price comparison , and they all end up the same max figure they are running a cartel , where they set the price ,0

All the price comparison schemes are on the whole shop and not giving you the cheapest price for each item unfortunately. We had to buy some items in our Sainsbury's shop that were cheaper in Asda, as said items were out of stock in Asda. For these items there was a £1.25 extra cost at Sainsbury's, however we only got 26p on the brand match.0

If... and... perhaps.
Last time I went shopping, on Tuesday, the supermarkets did set the price. :rotfl:0 -

As usual you have to read the small print. All Tesco are bothered about in the headline hoping customers don't look too deeply into the restrictions and other points.0
