Stuck on high value contract with O2

Morning all,

I have an iPhone 5s on contract with O2 and I am paying £25 per month for the phone and £28 ish per month for unlimited calls, data texts etc.

Out of interest I actually looked at my bill - last month I used 21 minutes of calls, 45 texts and 121mb of data!!

I am in contract until July 16 (2 year contract!) but I just wondered if anyone knew of a way I could get them to reduce my tariff?

I have been with O2 for years - 10+ I think so I did wonder if I could play the loyal customer card??

I realise I am probably stuck in the contract and that's ok - I made my bed and I shall just have to lie in it if need be!

Pay off the handset part and then you're free to move to whatever tariff you want to, or whatever new network you want if you're so inclined.

No chance. Best deals are always for NEW customers. Loyalty means nothing to most Mobile providers:mad:

I think it's the tariff I am stuck with rather than the phone.

It sounded like you have a O2 Refresh tariff by the way that you described x for the phone and x for the allowance.
That being the case, by paying off the handset, this releases you from the airtime aspect of the contract.

I do - I get two separate charges. Well I never knew that paying off the phone cancelled the airtime  Thanks.

It won't automatically cancel your contract but you will need to call them to change tariff or cancel. We have done that a few times.

The handset payment and plan change are one easy phonecall.

If I had the £225 to pay off the phone!

I lie - I do have it but I am going on holiday at the end of the month - and then it's Christmas!

Well, at least £225 is less than £225+£28*9 as it would be for a traditional contract, not Refresh.

Depends if you want to same money in the long term.

I used to just let my insurance renew on a monthly payment, but realised that i could save money by paying upfront.
It was a large chunk that month, but it saved me money overall and i know roughly how much to put away each month for next years insurance.

Instead of paying after + interest, i now earn interest (probably 1p) but i pay less overall.
