Afternoon folks!
Thanks to clootiesmum for starting us off
DNMS - please be gentle on yourself. You are doing better than you know
A late post from me today. I had to wait in at home this morning for the man to fit the new smart meters. Wow you should see the display thing! Is it wrong that I'm so excited to get home and play with the settings?
Today's list:- Tiny bit of overtime to earn hours back
- B/L/D from stores (slow cooker veg biryani tonight!)
- Charge phone in work
- Play with smart meter
- Check online banking and reconcile spreadsheet
- Possibly go to pub and watch fireworks if OH up to it. The pub is by the river so we can see right across to the city so we'll get a good view
- Crochet (am over 1/3 of the way through
) - Crossfit

Hello Frugal Ones,
Well, not a bad day today. Had a bit of a massive tantrum last night but can't be bothered to go into the reason which is very dull & IT-related. Cheered up after a night's sleep. So, today's money-saving efforts:
*Made a quick packed lunch to take on city centre trip as I knew we'd end up going for coffee AND lunch if I didn't, so that saved some money........managed to eat contraband lunch in cafe, after only buying coffees, but then mr f bought a bowl of chips so didn't feel we'd been too sneaky. (Chips came out of his own money, lol and he bought my coffee too, as he still felt bad about my IT melt-down even though it wasn't his fault).
*Saved a lot of petrol today as had planned a day out in North Yorkshire but it was sooooooo rainy we stayed closer to home instead.
*Did grocery shopping - on budget plus triple nectar points & bargain YS pork steaks.
*Bought some fresh Cornish sardines from fish counter. I love these but only ever seem to eat them in Cornwall for some reason! Really healthy & nutritious & very cheap. Must buy more frequently.
*Had lovely time testing free perfume samples to see what I might like to put on my festive wish-list. AND.......I've just smelled them all again, & it seems that the one I like the most is one of the less expensive ones :-)
*Bought 2 more Christmas presents & it would have been 3, had not the book I wanted been damaged in both shops I looked in. Only one in stock, so will have to get online. Planned to order it tonight, but have just had an email telling me I'll soon be receiving another Amazon voucher from an big brand's online community I'm on at the moment. Together with the previous voucher received recently, that would actually pay for the book, so will hang on until I have the code. Today's presents were bought from the Presents Piggy, as I'd remembered to take the cash with me.
*1p road kill. (Big wow!!)
*mr f found a 2nd-hand X-box game in CEX he'd been wanting for £5 instead of the £50 it would have cost new when it first came out.
Think that's it for today. I was going to type 'Didn't buy a pair of trousers as they didn't have the right size' but this would be disingenuous as I know I fully intend to go to a more local branch of the same shop, try on a pair in the next size down.....& buy them......so I shall 'fess up now :-)
Hope everyone OK.
DNMS - Sorry to hear you had a difficult evening yesterday. Hope you're feeling less stressed & upset today. It's a lot you've taken on with your little DGD, even though she always sounds like a little sweetie - & the situation with your daughter must be very difficult & hard to understand at times. You can only do your best, as in any situation. Glad to hear you're still enjoying your garden projects as gardening can be great therapy in tricky times. Remember that none of us are 100% perfect 100% of the time...................................not even me, lol x
f x2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
Hi All
Kayannie - Thanks for your kind words. I am really sorry to hear about your tooth, it is really horrible having holes in your mouth, you cant help but touch it with your tongue constantly which makes it worse. Really hope its sorted out soon.
Determined - So sorry you feel so dreadful. It sounds like you have been under a lot of pressure. The doctors may well be the best option. Really hope you feel better soon.
La E -Well, oddly I have been a member of MSE since 2005, but I dont remember at all what I used to do here. I joined before my wedding in 2006 when I was trying to save £13,000 in a year, which I pretty much did
Re self management of a rental property, we've been doing it since 2009, we used to pay a lettings agency £50 per month, but when the contract ended we decided to do it ourselves. Saved a fortune. That said, we are local to our BTL & my OH is very handy. So, it may not work for everyone.
Sorry, have to rush off can hear DD in the bath with OH sounding like she is being murdered

Hello,
It's w..e...e...k...e...n...d here. Hurrah.
Enjoying some of the bottle of Polish quince liqueur a friend gave us and having a cheeky watch of our neighbour's fireworks.
When I got home from work at 6am I went straight and made a huge to-do list. Most of which wasn't exciting enough to post...take bins out...
Debt-Free Nillionaire Month 5:
* RM Surveys.
* Planned our weekend treat: Asked workies for suggestions: one of them suggested going to a pro ice-hockey match at Braehead Arena so we got tickets it on Saturday. Glasgow Braehead Clan v Coventry Blaze. Got 45p back on Quidco as tickets can only be bought through money-grabbing Ticketmaster. £17 a ticket. And we've budgetted for a light meal out beforehand.
* Tesco Clubcard vouchers are online. We got £4 which is good considering we seldom use Tesco.
* Got £3.77 of Nectar Points to spend.
* Nearly up to the £10 voucher mark from i-Say surveys.
* Spent £4.40 at Amazon but got £25 worth of goods with free delivery thanks to vouchers and the Aazon SuperSaver Delivery Tool. (Link) That's three Decemberfest gifts for me.
* Found 5p.
* Dozed through a DVD from the cupboard.
Have a good night everyone.

dnm when things are stressful with DS I find it can all build up slowly until I have a really really bad day then after it has all come to a head I feel better afterwards. I agree that seeing the docs is important though if things dont improve. Hope you are OK tonight.
I also struggle with the fact that everyone around me has more money than I do. Its weird because when I say that I cant afford to do something it seems to bother other people more than me!
We were going to go to a bonfire but it has been chucking it down. No-one was that bothered anyway so it seemed silly spending the money. Have lit the fire and are watching a bit of telly instead.0 -
Hello everyone
:D:D
I too am having an IT nightmare - I appear to have acquired some fairly horrific adware that is totally destroying my internet experience. I have been waiting all day and for a few hours this evening for a scanner to run. So far it's found 1959 things and it's still not done so I think I have work to do.
It meant that I couldn't get on earlier when I was hoping to, and it's still touch and go as to how long I can stay on here.
Anyway - hope everyone is doing ok. DNMS - please don't put off going to the doctors. If it's in your mind it's probably the right thing to do. Look after yourself.
Kayannie - I have crowns on my front teeth too and once broke one with a mint
Hope you're not waiting too long to get it sorted out.
Anyway - here's my list of things I've done today.
checked banking and PAD
planned what to do with a cheque I am apparently being sent for £171 for PPI that I didn't even know that I had
load of bedding in to wash
nsd
all meals from stores
planned for next week
15 mins housework and declutter
packed lunches for tomorrow
watched firework display with the kids from my bedroom window Not giving up
Working hard to pay off my debt
Time to take back control

Solution to Computers Eating Posts And A Way To Write Your Posts More Quickly:
(1)
Kayannie, If you use the Firefox or the Ice Dragon browser you can quickly and easily download the free Lazarus Form Recovery 2.3.1. Add On. Then if your post goes AWOL you can just right click the blank form where the post should be and click Recover Text and, abracadabra, it'll restore what you wrote.
To install this very tiny helpful doo-dah:
*Click on the 3 horizontal lines in the corner of your browser screen.
*Click on Add Ons.
*In the Search box type "Lazarus". You will see "Lazarus: Form Recovery" comes up.
*Click Install.
*That's it.
*Restart Firefox.
It should take less than a two minutes to do this. Now when you lose a post right click the blank form where the post has vanished from, click Recover Text and, you'll get your post back. This will work on most forms on the internet, not just on MSE.
If you don't have Firefox you can get it free here. (Link)
(2)
The other useful things about the Lazarus Add-On is that you can use it to write posts on here more quickly. For example, if I want to add my long list of links that I post every day I don't have to go back to yesterday's thread, find the list and copy and paste it in. I can just start a new post, right click on the blank form, Click Recover text and click on any of my recent posts that'll pop up before my very eyes. I can then edit that post if I want to.

What is it about being on this thread?
I cannot lie - I had to tidy the kitchen & put the dishes in the dishwasher before I came on to update - in case you knew I hadn't done this.....
Anyhow, - I took copious notes to thank everyone for their comments today but I'm knacked.
All I can say is DNMS - thank you so much for the info regarding Dad's NI number, I had to call & speak to them but the bereavement team will call me back to discuss things & hopefully send out the necessary number.
And - go and see the Dr...
But today's update is:-
Proactive MSE-ing- All meals from stores - done
- Spend lunchtime trying to find out how to find out a NI number - spoke to a nice man - thanks to DNMS
- Car share to work - normally do this but DH is well late tonight but has arranged a lift home part of the way so will have to go out tonight at about 7.30 to pick him up - done - I even brought him home
- Start having a think about other money getting adventures - I'm sure we have an endowment somewhere that we stopped paying into & should cash in - that sort of stuff - have had some ideas - will update as tasks over the next couple of days
- Continue hunt for wee willie winkie candle holders and battery powered alarm - not tonight Josephine
- Make list (I love lists - can you tell) of all things that need to go in the bug out bags for car. We have a 40 min drive to work and in the event of being stuck due to traffic/snow/zombie attacks I carry a rucksack in the car with basics - towel / gloves, hat, scarf / spare undies & toiletries in case we have to stay the night somewhere. Sounds like I'm a paranoid depressive but I'm really not - it's just that we live pretty rurally & have had to walk in to house occasionally after parking car up. Once you've done it once - you prep. - basics started - I keep adding to it as I find things lying about - these will be made up this weekend & popped into car
- Ideas required for a small hamper of nice items for an aunt who has Alzheimers. I already have a nice handcream & nice biscuits on the list - all other suggestions gratefully accepted - she also wants a photo of my Mum that I have that she likes - this will go in a nice frame - maybe even add one of me & DH as well
- None tonight - just kept looking at living room unit drawers & being happy
- Post on here once a day 11/28
- Get up at 6 am on work days 4/28- just - but in my defence I had cleaned out & reset the fire before coming on-line as well as making my lunch & breakfast for work.
- Watch more of series 4 of "The Walking Dead" - only 1 tonight as we didn't sit down until 8pm when DH got in
- Check banks - meh - but done
- Clean out another kitchen cupboard to up the Mins game total - have my eyes on a large cupboard that may not reap much for Mins game but needs to be done - done
Mins game - 26/465- Only one pretty glass bottle from kitchen cupboard - all other stuff that went out was well out of date food (sorry)
- And 1 glove - really loved these gloves but a dog ate one over 8 years ago - so why am I hanging on to the left hand one only? Right hand one I could see - but not left hand one.
Note to self - have a coffee before using knife to cut veggies.....
Have a good night folksDebts 07/12/2021
