Advice needed...... possibly a dilemma?

To anser your question in the OP, yes, I think you took advantage of her if you didn't make it clear to her exactly what was entailed. i.e. She was the keeper of the dog and paid all the bills ,despite the fact that she has no money, and you got the stud fees
You say you were helping her out but you were helping yourself. Just because she would have got another dog doesn't justify you giving her your dog, with restrictions.
As for the insurance , did you explain to Petplan that you were using the dog at stud and registering the pups in your name as owner of the stud dog?0 -
What I don't understand, is he is an animal you're supposed to love right? Why not neuter him, then he can remain with you and be fine with the other dogs. Surely having him with you as a pet beats him living elsewhere and making money from him? No way would I let my dog go elsewhere just so I made money off of her. Very confused!0

It seems a bit hypocritical to let someone else look after and feed your dog, but still expect to be able to make money off him yourself.0

Your friend is the reason why I am a misanthrope. Poor dog.0

As a poodle owner, I'd love to know what you mean by this...0 -
I also find it sad that people are still breeding dogs when there are so many needing homes out there.

Could not agree more.Would mean more homeless dogs given a new and better life, and instantly stop the awful cruelty of puppy farms,if only breeding was halted for however long it would take to achieve that.
Pie in the sky I know but it would make such a difference to many dogs lives.0 -
If she has no money is it wise for her to have him?
We all know how much dogs can cost, insured or otherwise.0 -

Its a nice idea, but unless you could solve all those problems within 5 years or so, you'd just end up with no dogs at all, except the ones bred by irresponsible people.
IMO, the way to deal with it is to make it much much harder and much less profitable to breed dogs, to put off those who are in it for a quick buck. The ones who do it for the love of the animals will carry on.
The government could close the puppy farms tomorrow if they wanted to, they just don't want to.0 -

That wouldn't work, as by the time all dogs (after neutering) were sorted into homes, the breeding stock would be too old, so there would be no more dogs.0
