Advice needed...... possibly a dilemma?

I'm looking for advice here, as I would like to know if I'm the one in the wrong...
A few months ago my pedigree stud dog was not getting on very well with having my !!!!!es in the home. At the same time my friend, who has no money said she was looking to get another dog. She liked my dog and I thought it would be nice for her to have him at her house but didn't want to give up the stud rights as after all, that's why I bought him. We agreed that I would use him for stud & he would stay with her. No money changed hands.
Now she wants ownership.
I offered to sign a declaration of ownership and sign over the microchip, however she wasn't happy and wanted the kc papers signed over too. I wanted to keep these as I use them if he sires a litter to be registered. She complained that the insurance company would not pay out so I confirmed with Petplan who say it doesn't matter who the kc reg is with as long as the ownership can be proved at the vets & micropchip etc.
She is now saying she thinks I took advantage of her because if she doesn't own him why should she pay for him. If I keep kc papers then I own him & should pay food, wormers etc.
The friendship is over because she thinks I have taken advantage so I'm not looking for a way back from this, I just want to know if she's right? Did I take advantage?
I thought I was helping her out, giving her a dog & all I wanted in return was the odd rumpy from the dog meaning I needed the papers. Was this unreasonable?

I can't really answer this as you'd like because I just can't understand the mentality of blithely giving your dog away like a book or a table, or of viewing him as a financial asset and not a member of the family.
Sorry, its too alien to me. If she loves him as a family pet though and not a source of income he's probably better off with her.0 -
She has no money you say but you give her your dog to look after and feed. I thought it would be nice for her if he lived with her!!!! So she is taking him to the vet etc and looking after him.
So to you it seems he is just a stud dog, a sperm machine to make money. How many times have you actually used him for stud and how much have you made from him? But she is paying the Vet Plan!!!0 -
Erm... Blithely giving a dog away? He lived here as a pet as well as a financial investment. He was well cared for & not looking for another home but she wanted another dog anyway... She would have gone out & bought one - I would always step in with the money for his care if needed.
As far as how much money I've made from him, I am currently running at a loss because of all his training issues and lack of weight gain... I have used him for stud a total of 4 times and not including the day to day care which is to be expected, he also had all his hip & elbow scores and eye tests to ensure he is a suitable stud which cost me well over £500!!
This dog was unhappy with me because of the !!!!!es which is what I said initially, hence I figured he would happier with her. I do accept your comments though, thank you for at least taking the time to answer.0 -
He has training/behavioural issues and can't gain weight - but he's a suitable stud animal?
It wouldn't appeal to me if I had a pedigree b*tch and was searching for a sire. Or looking for a pup - 'oh yes, he has all his papers, but he can't get along with female dogs and needs dog psych. input'.
I'd expect that your skint friend is looking to backyard breed from him or sell him, telling you he was stolen/lost, however. There's no other need for the papers than to push up prices of litters or increase an insurance payout.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Why did you not do what other owners of good stud dogs do? Put him in kennels when your females are in season?
When we had dogs and females (and at one time we had two males - one young lad and my older (failed) stud dog - and four females (one elderly, one mum and two younger girls. We managed them by having separate kennels at the bottom of the garden, and we managed to alternate them around - girls not in season in the house, girls in season in kennels - rest of the time, they would take turns about in the kennels.
The fact that you have four females and bought in a stud dog leads me to the fact that you are a breeder. But as has been said - using a dog with temperament problems as a stud? That is a definite no-no.0 -
First of all ...... 4 !!!!!es???? no, I have 2 !!!!!es he has been used 4 times on other people's !!!!!es and the behaviour issues stem from the fact that he is a poodle!! He is a very very nice poodle & has an exemplary record with my children and other dogs, however he is very dominant and as a responsible owner, instead of simply giving him away as others would, I chose to try and resolve the issue. Which was largely successful, except when !!!!!es are in season.
I have no problems using him as a stud dog, he is a little sweetheart, his weight management is now improving it was due to the stress of having !!!!!es in season in the same house. I do however take on board the comment about kennels, however as mentioned before, these are family pets too & I would rather keep them in the house if possible, which is why I tried to resolve the issue, then rehome him with someone I knew would treat him as a pet.
Yes I am a breeder, however I do not see what this has to do with anything at all.0 -
I have no idea what a !!!!!ies is.
But it is a dog we are talking about here.
If you love him and want to spend time with him keep him.
If you do not then give him completely to your friend.
I suspect as now you are not friends with your friend, and are viewing this as a stud business, your best option would be to take him back and sell him to someone who really wants the poor animal
you may have to refund her pet insurance though0 -

The friend has no right to the KC registration or the pedigree, as she was gifted the dog. (some breeders actually charge extra for 'papers', I believe).
However, if the OP loves the dog, have him castrated and either take him back or leave him with the friend. She could then have the documents (or a copy )as she would be unable to make use of them, once he's neutered.0
