viber uses mobile number as id but how do callers get thru when SIM not in device?

Viber does not need SIM to work. I use Viber on a tablet with no SIM or phone connctivetly
It uses wifi , only needs a phone address book to set up

Nothing to do with IMEI, SIM etc.
When you set up viber it reads ur phone address book numbers. It uses these numbers via wifi to connect viber to viber0 -
PS I assume their server rings the number on your device0

i must be stupid as i'm missing something. my phone had a sim in when i set viber up. my number is all that viber has to locate my phone? no? if so and i remove sim how can it find my phone? i don't have static IP0
