out of curiousity how much does it cost for a recolour or recover for one cushion pad?

This is impossible to say without seeing the job. If it needed a small amount of recolouring you may be able to get it done for £40-£50 but if the whole cushion needed doing it would probably be about £80.00 - £100. Recovering requires getting the leather coloured to match and this will be much more expensive.

Sorry to hijack the thread - we have a "leather faced" sofa and the seat has cracked and actually ripped slightly from wear. It is 2 years old and I appreciate that this is the cheaper option of a leather sofa but is there anything that can be done to repair it? If so, how much is it likely to cost? The seat cushions are not removable (as far as we can see).
