Ideas needed for garden security!!

There are lots of things you can do to secure a garden.
How big is the fence? If it is less than 2m high you can put a trellis on top to achieve that height. Preferably a wobbly trellis that would break if anyone attempts to climb over it, thieves dont like to make noise.
You could plant mahonia under the fence and and thorny
climbing roses up the trellis.
If the shed has power you could fit an alarm and/or a PIR light.
If you have a home alarm system these can sometimes be extended to include a shed or garage. If not i would put a dummy box on the back of the house straight away.0 -
Prikka strips are the best bet. You could also attach a trellis to the top of the fence, making it higher and more difficult to climb over, plus it breaks if someine tries to climb over, making quite a lot of noise."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

If you put spiky stuff on top of the fence / wall (accompanied with a warning sign), then yes the persistant burglar could still get in, but why bother when there are other houses without spikes?
Unless there's a very good reason for someone to want to break in, burglars are opportunitists and will go for the easy option every time. You'd be amazed how effective fake CCTV cameras etc are just because it's extra risk for them. Actually, my friend had a real CCTV, but he was a bit weird.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Paint the top of the fence with anti-burglar paint. The stuff than never dries, makes a real mess and costs less than £10. You can also get cheap shed alarms that make a lot of noise if you don't switch them off in a few seconds.
I would get some cheap trellis for the top of the fence, the extra height will reduce the chances of your friends property being selected. Just think of it from the burglars point of view, where are the easiest pickings in the street.0 -
Barbed wire is pretty easy to get past, and at worse it's gonna give you a wee cut on your hand.
Anti vandal paint will ruin clothes and apparently takes days of washing to get off your skin:rotfl:

To be honest, if the shed is secluded and not overlooked, it will always be a target for a burglar, even if you make it more difficult to get over the fence. It's just too tempting - they'll take the risk.
If he really wants to deter burglars, then re-site the shed - make it a less attractive temptation - sorry.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
Does anyone know the law on Anti vandal paint? Does it have to be above a certain height? And do you need to display signs?Good enough club member number 140

if the shed is on concrete, then put the expensive stuff in 'van vaults' screwed into the base. For me, securing the shed is pretty useless, as its a shed! Lights and better planting and fence, coupled with van vaults is the answergo on, adopt a greyhound

you should try planting a climbing rose bush against the fence. If an intruder did decide to jump the fence, then they would certainly be in for a surprise.
I planted a compassion rose in my garden, I choose this one in particluar because of its size, they can grow up to 15 ft +. The idea of the name also appealed to me.
Planting a rose, is probably the best method because they are relatively low cost and also make your garden look nice opposed to barbed wired fence looking prision.
I managed to get my climbing rose from Apuldarm Roses, if you decided to buy some roses, buy the cut roses that way they will grow much quickly.0 -
anti climb paint dires over time and also washes off and so is ok for a short while, but you also have to use it above 6 feet in height and also need warning notices. I'd get an alarm mine, I have seen one somehwere but can't remember where. This will scare the pants off any burglar.0
