Powergen Prepayment Economy 10 Help
Ive just moved into a house that has a prepayment meter thats driving me mad as I have to drive 5 miles down the road, pay 50p for using debit card and have to stamp in £5 cards that is doing my head in and also the shop I buy the cards for only ever carry £50, so I have to do this trip every month.
Now my supplier is powergen and nicely said that I will have to pay £50 to get a paper bill meter.
Now my question is, will it be cheaper to do this?, im trying to find this tariff prices for powergen and cant seem to find them online.
I guess I woudlnt be able to use economy 10 no more, so is this a total loss?
and im guessing they would put me on economy 7. I have also found that edf energy would be £80 better off a year over powergen, but they dont offer a compare on economy 10, only 7.
Many thanks.

Economy 10 is available on a 'normal' credit tariff.
Is the £50 a payment or a deposit? I have never heard of having to pay to have an electricity meter fitted.0 -
I think its bang aout of order thatg they charge me £50 for something I didnt want in the first place.Kind Regards

Hi,
No suppliers charge for a meter fitting. The reason they will be saying this is because Pre-payment meters are fitted to defaulting customers so they don't want to remove it. If you have been a good customer they can't judge you based on an old history of say a previous tenant, but it happens.
Speak to a manager, refuse to pay and get them to sort it.
E10 meters are the same as Economy 7. They just switch onto off peak for 10 hours a night instead of 7. Tne tariff is the same as any companies 2 rate on peak/off peak rates.
Good luck...:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
I did my nut at the woman after she said they couldnt change it due to regulation for 6 months, so I did my nut and shes calling back on Tuesday.Kind Regards

I don't believe that is correct.
Most E10 tariff's I have seen have a 3 hour 'top up' period in the afternoon/early evening and then revert to the daytime rate with the additional 7 hours at normal Economy 7 timings(usually anywhere between 11:30pm and 8:30am)
Also the E10 tariff rates are not the same as E7 rates(i.e. peak/off peak)0 -
I moved into my house, it had a pre-payment meter for the electric - and it is with Powergen. They removed the pre-payment meter and installed a credit meter (I pay monthly DD) for free. This was done about a month after I moved in.0

They've changed their policy on removing pre-payment meters recently and some customers will have to pay £50 to cover the cost of the exchange. Also depending on their circumstances i.e. whether the customer owns or rents or has a previous Powergen account they may be asked to pay by monthly Direct Debit, have an external credit check done and in some circumstances they will have had to have lived at the property for a minimum of 12 months before the pre-payment meter will be removed.0 -
Yer the new policy is becuase people keep mucking them about with changing them back all the timeKind Regards
