Any help appreciated - energy suppliers Dec 2014 - Oct 15

Options
I've recently found out my supplier failed to send a notification letter at the ending stages of my initial year contract deal (found through here).

What I'm looking for are any deals (preferably the best) for Electric and Gas from December 2014 up to October 2015.

Not sure what other information may be needed to aid in this, but I thought this site was a good place to start.

Any links/ info appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

It depends on where you live and how much gas and electricity you use.

If you go to www.energyhelpline.com and enter your annual consumption in kWh you will find the current cheapest company/tariff. It is important that you enter kWh and not annual spend in £££s.

Will that show past deals though?

    I'm not after current deals.

I'm afraid "Past" deals are just that - Past
Comparision sites and Suppliers only show tariffs that customers can switch to now, defuct tariffs are eliminated as soon as a new one is offered.

For example EDF have this year offered at least three fixed tariffs expiring in 2016, and as each new one was brought in it's predesessor was withdrawn

IIRC, the OP is presumably hoping to claim compo on the basis that the supplier failed to advise them that their contract was ending, and then switched them onto Standard tariff, where they remained for 10 months until they noticed? They then were supposedly disadvantaged by failing to take advantage of cheaper tariffs?
In which case, such a claim hasn't a hope in hell of succeeding, and rightly so.

Compo claim stands out a mile and I agree not much chance of success.

However OP the only way I can think you might find"comparison " figures is if you were to post your region and details of the prices you were paying at the end of your contract then any MSE who is in the same region as you and took out a contract in December might give you a lead as to how much you MIGHT have paid.
  • I agree that the OP stands little chance of getting compensation - the supplier will simply claim that they did in fact send the required notification. However, the principle of compensation should be sound - the requirement that suppliers should notify their customers that their fixed price tariff is coming to an end is surely one of the regulations surrounding the suppliers' responsibility to keep their customers informed about the availability of better deals.

I think the OP should calculate the difference between the prices of the fix which ended last December, and the standard variable prices which have been applied since the fix came to an end. All of this information will be available on the bills which cover the period in question.

I think the OP should then lodge a claim for a refund of the calculated over-charge, followed if necessary by a formal complaint. If nothing else, it would be interesting to find out the official opinion(s).

Why is it always someone elses fault and they must pay compensation?

We need to take responsibility for our own actions - if a contract is ending then we should not need reminding.

OP did you not notice that your bills after December were showing Standard tariff prices?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

It is pretty obvious that the OP takes little interest in his bills, if indeed he has been on a standard tariff for 10 months and not noticed.

He obviously expects a separate notification letter and not a note on a bill.

Just when should any notification be sent? For instance I am with SP on a fixed tariff ending March 2016. They have just introduced another fixed tariff ending November 2016 which in my area has cheaper gas but more expensive electricity.

If my future pattern of consumption is the same as my present pattern the Nov tariff is cheaper for me, but that might not apply to everyone. Should they notify me? and can I sue them if my pattern changes and I am worse off:o

Wow! So many people with assumptions!

As it happens, I've had a really crappy run through this year. I guess I'm the only one ever who's had a bad year. Bills have been the least of my concern. I don't have to justify myself anyway.

As I thought would be obvious on these forums, I use paperless billing.

The company has already accepted that they didn't send the letter. They have currently offered me £45. This seemed a little low, so I thought I would come on here for help.

As for "Captain Obviously" you shouldn't assume so much. As far as I'm concerned, you've just made a complete !!! of yourself!
