Put the bed against the wall, or have a single bed and you sleep upstairs.
Children can do homework in their bedrooms or on their laps.
You need to be willing to compromise, it's coming across that you want things all your way.0 -
Can the doors not be sliding doors.
My DIL's parents were both in wheelchairs.
Mum slept in the bedroom and dad had a bedroom partitioned off from the living room with a sliding door.
There was no room in the living room for a table, Just some seats for people to sit on and a tv.0 -
There rules for disabled bedrooms the 75cm either side of bed is one of them so is 150cm turning circle that doesn't fit in current plans. Also I don't want to be separated from husband and I do have to care/watch for him through out the night.I don't want everything done my way,but I do want it done properly,So that he can use his home properly and safely.Have offer 2 alternative plans. The plans above don't do that for reasons I have explained above.0

I doubt the council will accept "others not being able to see the telly" as a valid reason tbh. i wouldn't even bother mentioning that in your discussions with them.
Forget the dinning table .. Shift the two seater to the left and check if there is room for the wheelchair next to it ... Unless the door opening physically obstructs the wheelchair the turnig circle for this area would be a bit of a red herring as there is still the turning circle available in the middle of the room.Spelling courtesy of the whims of auto correct...
Pet Peeves.... queues, vain people and hypocrites ..not necessarily in that order.0 -

Most bungalows i visit with wheelchair using occupants don't allow for full turning circles sadly ..the residents back up their wheelchairs /powerchairs ... Or shove the bed next to the wall (or have single beds to enable more room). Are any of these ideas an option. ?Spelling courtesy of the whims of auto correct...

Simply remove the desk and television, change sofa for a two seater and there is plenty room for his chair.0 -

Those rules only apply when the person is in the bed, meaning when the bed is vacant it can be pushed against the wall. The rules actually only apply if outside care is used in reality.
Turning circles also aren't needed at all. Surely if like me you care during the night your awake anyway, so a sofa or arm chair is fine.0 -
Thank you all for help,
Yes the door does obstruct him getting in as doesn't open wider than show on picture.due to furniture layout. The turning circles are something that does have to be there (1 previous DFG turned down because they couldn't fit them in)
So it looks like no television,2 x 2 seaters and a single bed is way forward. Plus a kitchen unusable by husband (when they move wall)to fit turning circle in.
sorry but we could of done that 3 years ago, when council said no to very similar plans, and forced us to move to second house when plans rejected on turning circles.Meaning another move.0 -
I use a wheelchair/walker/stick and the bathroom door was turned into a sliding door with a false wall 6 inches into room so door could slide in without making corridor any narrower. The shower tiles are on this false wall it takes up a lot less room than an opening doors footprint.
Really is worth looking at sliding doors.. they're easier to operate in a chair as well as you dont have to shuffle back an dforth to open them.
How many bedrooms do you have? Can you turn one of the bedrooms into an upstairs living area, homework, telly space and have the whole space living room downstairs as a bedroom? It's not ideal but kids could coem in an dwatch telly with Dad on bed an dolder ones can bring bean bags or chairs.
Would a drop down table in kitchen give you family eating space?
Could any extension be made to kitchen for cooking/diner?
Is there anyway of upgrading hubbies wheelchair to one with a smaller turning radius for indoors that still supports him sufficiently.. there are wheelchair grant options on turn2us grants checker?
how much does a through floor lift cost? That way you coud adapt the upstairs bathroom and everyone use it.. if you still want a bath for kids you can buy lifesize inflatable ones that empty down the wetroom plug..0
