Moving a water butt

Hiya

Hopefully I'm moving house in the not too distant future, and I'm taking my large garden water butt with me. It's currently taking its water from a plastic squared off downpipe and my question is, when I pull the house out there's just going to be an open hole that will be ready for the buyers to attach their water butt to, but in the interim will just be a hole in the drainpipe where water will pour out when it rains.

Is there a bung or something that I can get to stop it up until a new connection is made to it?

I didn't connect it so I'm not sure how it actually fits to the pipe but am assuming it's probably better to leave what's there in situ, bung it up, and just get myself a new drainpipe connect wotsit once I get into the new house.

Cheers :-).

If I was moving house, it would not occur to me in a thousand years to take the water butt with me.
Anyway, just plug the hole in the end of the hose with anything that will jam into it.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Well if you're happy to leave behind £40's worth of water butt, crack on, but I'm not going to.

I was actually asking if anyone knew if there were any specific bungs that anyone knew about; obviously I'd already discounted 'just bunging anything that will jam it' cos what it is likely won't fit and will leak all over.

No worries though, I'll sort something out.

Only been typing for 30 years, you think I'd have figured it out by now!!

Which will come with a new bit of flexible pipe to connect it to the water butt, so when you disconnect the present one leave the bit of pipe and just turn it up or tie it so it is in a vertical position and higher than the drain pipe fitting, water in the drainpipe will not flow uphill in the pipe and problem solved.

£40 is surely pretty insignificant when moving house is it not? I'd have thought the hassle and cost of moving it would make it pointless. Are you going to uproot any plants in the garden as well?

£40.00 for a butt, my last and best one was from Wilkinson at £24.00 - it replaces one that split at the bottom.

Providing there's spaces on the removal wagon - yes I would take my four, if I was in a similar position, moreover depending on the time of year, I may be tempted to dig the begonia bulb/roots! And of course I'd want to take my goldfish!

Pull the hose out & shove a cork in the end.
