I know we're all supposed to wash at 30 degrees these days but i still use 40. Have most people switched to 30 or people use other temperatures or do people vary the temp according to what's in the load? Just curious...

I wash most things at 30, I do however put the machine on at 90 once a fortnight to give it a good clean inside.
We use almat powder and sainsburys water softner in each wash.0 -
I only ever wash things at 30.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

Didn't feel 30 was getting the clothes properly clean on my normal quick wash setting, so I've gone back to 40.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

I vary the temperature, 30 or 40 deg C isn't hot enough to kill germs and bacteria so I washing things like underwear, bedding, towels through at 60 deg C to kill off the bugs and bacteria.
Everything else goes through at 40 deg C.0 -
30 deg is ok for the very lightest soiling but for normal washes we use 40-60 deg.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0

Work shirts, trousers, t-shirts etc 30 degrees 30 minute "fast wash" unless anything's spilt on them.
All other clothes 30 degree full wash. (running kit and rugby kit 40 degrees on occasion)
Bedding, throws off the sofa (usually complete with dog slobber and crumbs!), towels and dog bed 60 degrees.0 -
I wash everything at 60deg at this is the temperature that kills off all bugs.
I don't understand all this washing at low temperatures you can even now buy anti bacterial additives to kill off the bugs but surely this is way more expensive than to just wash at 60 in the first place!
I think it does depend on what your machine will do. I always make sure any machine I buy has variable temp control so I can still use the quick wash options along with the higher temperatures. I hardly ever do a full wash mostly I use one of the quicker options and 60 deg I find this cleans everything fine.0 -

I also wash everything at 60 because I wash towels with everything else otherwise I wouldn't have enough for a full load except for woolens which I wash at 40.0 -
I wash everything at 40C and all seems fine to me.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I vary the temp to match the load, I also wash the whites first and scale down the temp in sequence of washing.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A
