Barclaycard and Barclays Bank Accounts

Hi there,

First post, so please excuse a possibly obvious question.

I have a Barclaycard and Barclays Bank account, but want to switch to a First Direct account. If I switch, is that likely to affect my Barclaycard account? I want to pay off the Barclaycard after I switch bank accounts and could do without unexpected hassle!

No it won't affect your Barclaycard. Credit cards are run seperately from bank accounts.

There will be no affect on your Barclaycard account as there are no requirements to have a Barclays bank account to maintain a Barclaycard.


If you are paying by direct debit currently this will be transferred over as part of the switch. Alternatively if you are paying on a ad hoc basis you will either be able to make payments through a variety of methods.


If you have a significant balance on your Barclaycard you may be able to open the First Direct Credit Card with a 0% for 27 months on balance transfers offer and shift the debt across!

Thanks for clearing that up! I'm generally wary of changing banking details unless I've had to, but am getting tougher on my finances. (Especially since Barclays ratcheted up their overdraft fines last year.)
