BT Bill

I have just checked my latest BT Bill and see they are charging me £14.40 per month for my broadband - I renewed my contract in May 2015 at the rate of £13.00p per month .
When I phoned they said there is nothing they can do because of the price increase.
Is this correct?
Surely they should keep to the contract price for the 12 months?

Your T&Cs gave them the right to increase the price .

It's not a fixed price contract-telcoms contracts never are. You can leave without penalty if still in minimum charge, as long as you give proper notice on that basis within 30 daysNo free lunch, and no free laptop0

As others have pointed out, BT's fixed term contracts are usually not fixed price. However, if you renewed by phone then a lot depends on exactly what was said.
I was promised £x per month for 12 months and at no point was the possibility of a price rise mentioned. I had a recording of the conversation and have now been compensated (and apparently the call centre operator will be re-trained).
On the other hand BTs own website seems reasonably clear with a note against the price indicating that it is subject to change. By contrast some of the price comparison websites seem much less transparent.0 -
