How would you feel if you accepted an offer on your property from OP, then a few weeks later OP withdrew because things were getting back on track with the initial purchase property that OP preferred to yours? Like a used piece of toilet paper, I'd imagine.
I would be pretty pi55ed off and it's not something I would ordinarily do.
But at the end of the day there isn't anything legally wrong with it
In fact just a couple of months ago, I declined to put an offer in on somewhere we really liked, when we were given a deadline due to another offer being on the table.
I did this not because I didn't want the property, but because I also had a viewing on another property lined up for the day after the deadline. I knew that there was nothing to stop me offering on the first property, then viewing the second and offering on that and withdrawing my 1st offer, but I knew that the vendors had been trying to sell for about 5 years and proceedable offers were few and far between, and messing them about could lose them a rare chance at a sale.
However having accepted an offer and then keeping a potential buyer hanging on for over 5 months is pretty rude in it's self and I wouldn't find myself with as much respect for the vendor.0 -
Nothing you can say will force the vendor to get out. All you can do is keep viewing other properties. If one that's just as good comes up with a vendor who's more organised, switch and buy that instead.
In the meantime, don't pull out of the purchase. You might not find somewhere else. It just comes down to whether you or your vendor find something first.
I would be honest with everyone. Tell the EA you're going to view other properties as you need to buy, but you'll still buy this one if they find before you do. If you find somewhere else, don't keep both offers open and proceed on both purchases - if you get an offer accepted elsewhere then pull out of this one straight away. That's the fair way to do it.0 -
I would be extremely livid if I was you and I wouldn't have waited anywhere near this long.
We didn't list our house for sale until we had seen a few other houses that we liked. We took two weeks to find the new one after accepting the offer on ours and we kept our buyer in mind the whole time, making sure we got it sorted quickly.
Go and view some other houses and when you find one you do like as much as this one, give them a deadline and if they miss it, move on with the other one!
Forgot the 'dream house' nonsense, you will end up in the house you are meant to.0
