    No, you misunderstand me.. I have no problem with what you say here, none at all but I do object to being slammed immediately as thick, stupid etc just because my priorities are not the same as the writer's. If you read back through the thread, the advice becomes exactly that only after I have responded in a way which you call 'a bit off'. OK, I'm sure you're right about contracts but I was wondering if this has ever been challenged.. Apparently not if I can be called thick so quickly! Then perhaps it's time to put it to the test and challenge BT. Anyway, it would be nice if the 'experts' on fora such as this one treated people with an element of respect before launching a virtual attack, one which I'm sure they wouldn't launch face to face! cheers and thanks.

    Sorry, its not a case of attacking anyone. We're merely questioning if you gave some a service & they signed a contract for 12 months then you'd be having the same kind of attitude that most would have if they tried to get out of it early simply because 'we dont need it anymore'.

    You trying to think of every eventuality is just frustrating, like i said im all for consumer support but everyone has to look at both sides & if you signed something then really you shouldnt be questioning if a company is legal in asking for the remainder of the term in money.

    Common sense is lacking Biker, you said;
    we didn't think to study that to the nth degree!

    I suggest you study everything you put your signature to ensure nothing like this happens again!

    Before you can activate BT Broadband you have to click to confirm you have read and accepted the terms and conditions.
    Oh and standard length BT BB contract is 18 months not 12.

    Oh and yes, its totally legal for BT to enforce the contract.

    Just cancelling a contract before its completion, without good reason, is not a good idea.
    Reading your post, that appears to be what you are saying.

    When you sign up to the ISP, the online process almost always includes requesting you to tick a box to accept their terms&conditions.
    It's really essential to keep a copy of those terms, since they will detail under what conditions the contract may be cancelled, and just as important, the procedure they require you to take to file the cancellation.

    Much better to discuss this sort of thing with the supplier before taking any action. Just cancelling without any dialogue, for no good reason, just allows the supplier to invoke their cancellation procedure, which of course can be costly.

    It may an idea for you to discuss this with someone at your local CAB (Citizens Advice Bureau) or local county Trading Standards officer.
    They should be able to give you impartial advice.

    to find your local county trading standards office, just put your postcode into the search window on this website
