Talk Talk Scam Call - Press Windows Button and R Options

Options
Just had a call from a number 6690. Indian lady told me she was from Talk talk and they were getting reports of people trying to access my internet.

Asked me to switch on my computer (which was on). Then to press the windows button and R at the same time. This will open the "Run" command prompt..

At this stage I told her I didn't believe this was a proper phone call. She was surprised and asked me why I thought this, to which I told her I was no longer a Talk Talk customer, at which point she hung up.

Please be aware that this is a SCAM and do not follow their instructions

This scam was featured on BBC Watchdog on 29 October 2015.

There may well be a clip of this somewhere.

You should have played with them. Father in law had a call whilst i was there, he didnt have a computer at all but that didnt stop me having a play with them.

I said i just need to find the computer after a fairly long time of leaving the phone on the sofa i picked it up again and the scammer was still there.
I said i cannot find the computer, he asked if it was a laptop i said no its a great big tower PC. It must be here somewhere. He hung up. But i wasted at least 20 minutes of his time where he would not be annoying someone else.

    Hi
They told me they were from Microsoft and asked if I have windows.
    Of course I have windows.

After a lot of confusion and suggestions of which button to press I realised that they meant Windows OS and not those clear glass things.

It took quite a long time to work this out.

I then asked if he could help me with a misted up pane in one of my windows.

I cannot quite translate the reply, basically unable to help.

They are obviously ditching Microsoft, in favour of TalkTalk because of the recent publicity about hacking.

I haven't had one of these calls for ages, so perhaps will be able to have some more fun, soon. (I play the haven't a clue how to use a laptop game).
