I have a Fuji Fine-pix S6500fd Zoom and in my opinion its a wonderful camera I highly recommend it.

Couldn't agree more. Got one of these from Amazon 3 weeks ago. Easy to use in fully automatic mode. Incredibly flexible in semi auto and fully manual mode. Stunning pictures. One of my best purchases in years......

    thanks again for this.

Ive been hunting about and Ive found this one.

im stretching my budget really ( ok , more like ignoring it, it is more than the 150ish I wanted to spend, but it gets 10/10 on trusted reviews, and It does look the dogs.

Anyone give me any reason why I shouldnt buy this one? http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/s/finepix_s9600/index.html

Nothing wrong with the 9600 at all. It was a toss up between the 6500 and this. Price in the end for me was a big factor. Only thing to note the 9600 records 9million pixels, so will fill the XD card a lot quicker.

Couple of things. Don't be led down the more megapixels is best path, read some reviews, and make sure you get a camera with proper optical image stabilization, not one that simply adjusts the iso like Fuji often do.

Personally I would buy a second hand Canon S2IS from ebay. Should be under £100.

    One here (it's the S9100 in US-land) http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/S9100/S9100A.HTM

I have the S9600 - great camera, bigger than the S6xxx series, but that suits me. Takes CompactFlash cards as well as xD (haven't noticed much speed difference under normal conditions).

Budget for 2 or 3 sets of AA NiMH batteries - you probably won't need to change them during a day's shoot, but nothing more annoying if they croak.
  • Have a look at the Pentax K10D and the lower priced K100D.

From this review and why I wouldn't go for this camera, especially for safari trips.

"Designed for the person who wants to take pictures instead of snapshots, the Fujifilm S9100 provides every tool for the job except image stabilization........"

Sorry gang, another "which digital camera should I buy buy" I bet ya sick of all these arnt you :D Im hopeless with technology, so please do help....

Basically, I am going to malawi in a few weeks, and need to have a good camera to take photos of animals on safari. Id like a good zoom. Id also like to be able to take video clips. its vital it has a viewfinder, and also important that it has the handly bit ( you know, that bumpy bit- im sure theres a technical name!)

Additionally I do inventories on private rented properties and need a camera to cope with taking photos of smears on walls, sometimes very tiny damage ( holes from nails etc) My bosshere said I need a 10 MP camera for this, but quite frankly I cant afford that, and I dont think the job will pay for the investment ;)

so heres my choices, what do you reckon?

The Fuji S9600 Camera has some really good customer reviews visit http://astore.amazon.co.uk/activeits-21/detail/B000INUDMY/ to read them.

    Thanks

If youre tempted by a Fuji, and price is a factor, it might be worth considering a refurb. Fuji refurb shop.

Review of the S9600. (Its a different model name, but the same camera I think)
