  • Hi Everyone

    Hope your day improves Ally.

Am determined to not buy wool today or spend anything other than on lunch. Have a lovely lunch planned with a friend and I am VERY excited.
    Sticking to menu plan, just!
    Have a good day everyone.
    Maria.
  • Morning everyone :D
The most fantastic thing happened to me this morning. I slept until half past eight!!! Good job I put the bins out last night because I would have missed the binmen this morning otherwise. But I feel pretty good for it all in all - must have been my lovely long day with friends yesterday.
Ally - sorry you had a rubbish shift. I have plenty of those, that I sit and dwell on for ages, but you'll move on and everything will be fine again. You're good at your job, and we all have an off day.
clf - hope today goes as well as these things ever can
dnms - good luck for the interview. Don't worry about it being readvertised, They don't know how brilliant you are, and when they see today they won't need to interview anyone else either. :D
    Here's today's list:
:D check banking (if I nsd today I've made it as tomorrow is payday)
:D inventory food stores as I'm fairly certain we don't need to go shopping this week
:D more cooking or baking to use up anything that's desperate to be used
:D make a shopping list for just the essentials that we need
:D physio appointment - hopefully my last one
:D final tweaks to November budget
:D get a head start on extra money making as I've signed up to the £10 a day challenge for November.
:D Give dh a list of jobs to do
:D enjoy the fact that I am feeling ok today.
    Have a good day everyone.
Did we hear from Bob? Ooh - I'm off to check how she is...

    Good Morning Everyone

Ally - Thanks for starting us off
Bob - Thank you for finding the time and energy to post - listen to your body and slow down please
DNMS - Good Luck with the interview, try not to overthink the ad being re-listed - it may have been booked for x weeks until the closing date. Sorry can't help with the babysitting rates - do you have friends that use the same sitter or could you make arrangements to offer to babysit for each other (always assuming you don't want to go out all together)
CLF - Hope funeral goes as well as can be expected
Chocolate lover - This is a great thread for support and offloading - we have all either been there or will be at some point
Dawn - Hope you have an enjoyable day and that your sales improve
SpekySquarehead - maybe you need a bigger lunch or how about a snack drawer at work (must admit I could never eat soup without bread ;))

Love and hugs to everyone else who pops along or just fancies a hug:D

Hi to all of the regulars and a BIG welcome to all the newbies, this is a really FAB thread with so many lovely, caring, considerate and supportive people.

Gosh, it's grim here again - rain and so dark, yesterday turned into a disaster as sis-in-law and hubby arrived and everything ground to a halt and then by the time they left - no time or energy left to do anything

    Packed lunch for DH
    Ironing
    Post Office
    Freeze soup made yesterday
    Clean patio doors (glass)
    Bump all sale listings/freecycle/facebook
    Tea at mums
    Clean mum's flat
    Check Banks
    Continue purge on Emails
    Surveys
    Enter a few comps
    All meals from cupboards/fridge/freezer
    Read book
Check https://www.freepostcodelottery.com - Remember there are now 5 chances to win
    Check Lucky Phone

    Have a good day!

    Hello Frugalistas,
More rain today, so gardening off the agenda. Have been catching up with indoor jobs this morning & will be fitting in some leisure time this afternoon. Money saving stuff:
*Used a gap in the rain to run down to the veggie garden & pull baby turnips & leeks.
*Got slow cooker going (beef stew).
    *Made loaf in bread machine.
*An item I ordered for a Christmas gift arrived damaged, despite truly excellent packaging. Phoned company who were very apologetic, said it was perfect when it left, so must have been bent in post office machinery. They are sending me a replacement. Saved all the packing materials for adding to my wrappings box.
*Wrapped ebay item for posting tomorrow.
*Did next week's meal plans, prioritising getting some stuff used from the freezer.
*Checked ingredients required for making cranberry & apple chutney. Pleased to find I only need sugar. Intending to keep a jar for Boxing Day cold dinner at our house. The others will be tarted up to within an inch of their lives & given as gifts.
    *Wrote shopping list.
*Nobbled mr f over breakfast to discuss weekend plans. He's off next week, which will be great. We're planning some outings, autumn walks, Christmas shopping, etc, & need to prioritise going to stuff which has minimal cost implications. We love picnics, so we take those with us all through the year......we had one in over 4 inches of snow once. Great fun!
*Going out tonight (cinema) so will try to remember to take small snack with me, raisins or something, so as not to be quite so tempted by all the expensive sugary stuff on offer before we go in.
*Make a list of everything I need to do in town tomorrow morning - one lot of parking money, instead of paying again in the week to do the things I forgot.
*Hopefully knit some more of Dad's jumper. I'm really slacking on this at the moment.
*Finish off assortment of leftovers for lunch.
Love to all - especially those who are having a difficult day today. Ally - stop beating yourself up right now! That's an order, lol! I can be the world's worst for self-flagellation. It honestly achieves nothing except making you feel bad & building stress levels, so if whatever it is is still eating you, write it on a scrap of paper & physically put a match to it. There it's gone. Move on!
Whoooo! Just got to go & turn my loaf of bread out of the BM, then it's Me-Time!

2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!

Thank-you Foxgloves and everyone. I saw Hindu proverb and that helped my too:

"There are hundreds of paths up the mountain, all leading in the same direction, so it doesn't matter which path you take. The only one wasting time is the one who runs around and around the mountain, telling everyone that his or her path is wrong."

    Hi All

Am desperate to shout and scream about my MSE guru like behavior this afternoon.

Remembered to check my Mr T delivery renewal date. 11 November, have cancelled it as DD now calls in A**i on her way home from Uni. So I have done a massive last order o my Mr T value washing powder and stuff £129 for 6 November 2015 to keep me going for weeks and weeks. Also bought stuff for freezer as we have always had trouble making it home without frozen stuff defrosting. I like to tell myself this is a result of their minimum £40 spend, but really it is because DD is happy to go after Uni and it is totally lovely. No effort on my part at all, we menu plan and she does everything. How will I function when she leaves home?? Suppose eventually all good things must end.

Anyway the only sad thing is the lovely delivery drivers who I adore, but expect every few months I will need heavy or frozen stuff.

Have a lovely afternoon everyone. Seems odd to be so delighted by a £60 saving, but it has really pleased me. A**i food is much cheaper even than their value range so it gives me more money for wool and good stuff.

    Maria

It was making lunch to take to work or yacking to you lot this morning - sorry but MSE lunch won.

I've had a quick read & apologies if I've missed people out
Chocolatelover - thanks for the tip but they still don't work for me on advanced - this may be a weekend investigation
Ally - hope meeting today was better than last night's shift
CLF - hope all went as well as it could today
DNMS - hope the interview went well
Bob - sorry I missed you but take care of yourself
Maria - how was lunch - sounds exciting
And good to hear from all of you

Now my day - pretty good @ work but not so sure on the MSE front

    Proactive MSE-ing

    • No update from Co-op
    • But took all meals to lunch with me (including HM soup - nomnomnom)
    • Heating stew DH made last night for tonight's tea
    Winter prep
    • None - will make up for this at the weekend
    Christmas prep
    • Bit Bah humbug today

Round tuit (as in I'll get a round tuit) not strictly money saving but clears my mind
    • Clean out bill drawer - should have done this last night. DH has just had a call from Black Horse re PPI previously declined that they are looking into again. I'd looked out the original letter & it was in the drawer but I only managed to dig it out by the end of the call. Sounds promising
Good habit forming (28 days to set a habit into daily routine or something like that - I'm going for 1 a week)
    • Post on here once a day 4/28
    Happy cheapness and freeness
    • Chilling by the fire with a wee glass of wine
    • Did I mention DH got for £1 a set of pretty red shiny boxes - you know the Christmas ones shops put in windows all piled up[ with a big ribbon round them - those ones. So - hampers for Christmas & boxes are already in.
But what's the use in MSEing when DH drops his phone (sorry - lifeline - strikethrough no worky either) and it costs £40 to get it fixed.....n all fairness to him he checked the few places that could fix it and went for the most reasonable after looking up prices for kits on Amazon / ebay. But £40 is cheap when you consider his DIY record - superglued his hand to dining room table, cut notches in another d/r table leg whilst cutting down skirting board and dropped a car on his arm whilst trying to fix brakes.......

Anyhow enough for tonight - I'll try to be good tomorrow & post before leaving for work.
