Thursday 29th October: What small DFW things will you be doing today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important. :money:

    Hello,

    Just in from work and unwinding before bed. Had three really positive shifts and then tonight happened...a bit of a car wreck, so to speak. Sitting here feeling tired and emotional with my brain ticking over wishing I'd done a few things differently. Feeling mad at myself, I guess. :o

    Oh well, must try to move on, I can't change the past, it's not like I can afford the insurance on a secondhand Tardis. :rotfl: And it's now the weekend. Though I have to go in later for a one hour meeting.

    Debt-Free Nillionaire Month 5:

    * Plan November's budget.

    * Plan some inexpensive fun. A friend gave us a bottle of liqueur. Looking forward to opening it later.

    * Watch Martin Lewis on tv in a few minutes.

    * Charged my phone at work. Allowed to do this as I have to use my phone for work.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning folks,

    Sorry you had a bad shift Ally. I hate it when it's like that and you can't help mulling it over, but DNMS is right - it's probably not nearly as bad as it seemed. Emotions seem to be running high at our place at the moment. Lots of very strange emails flying about!

    Hugs to everyone else

    So an early start for me, today is the funeral. OH still asleep (which is fair enough) but I don't envy him today as he'll be helping to carry the coffin :(

    Today's list (with special funeral mse things - gotta see the positives eh?):
    • Try on black trousers. Seemed to fit when I bought them but when I went to wear them last time they were too tight. Have lost about 4lb since last trying though so hopefully they will fit.
    • Added Kenco points to account.
    • B/D from stores
    • L - sandwiches and cakes at the "after party"
    • Check online banking. Discovered a direct debit that I wasn't expecting (very unusual position for me to be in!) but luckily had some money to cover. Also discovered a cashback payment from my health insurers. Moved to savings.
    • Free paid day off work to attend funeral
    • Bring washing in later (is raining a bit now but dry this afternoon so will let it re-dry)
    • Put washing away
    • Tidy round a bit etc
    • Crochet
    • Possibly make some soup, depending on how we feel later
    • Bread on as forgot last night
    • Possibly nip to work to get payslip to do budget but may just pick it up tomorrow
    Right guys, I'll check in later

    Have a good one all

  • Morning ally & carrie & everyone who posts today (even the lurkers!)

    My morning is going to be about getting ready & then having an interview. I'm a bit weirded out as last night I was doing some prep and saw they readvertised the position (that I have an interview today) on Monday and it closes tomorrow. Not really sure what to make of that...

    After that:

    * do a ms assignment on the way back
    * nip to the farm shop for shallots & aldi for mushrooms & milk
    * update gc spends
    * apply for at least 1 vacancy - I have 3 I think that close tomorrow so need to get my skates on!
    * crazy hour housework
    * prepare dinner & make brownies for friends coming for dinner tonight. Am making boeuf bourguignon using ys beef and bits from stores
    * hopefully get an hour in the garden - weather looks good
    * get petrol at cheapest station while driving through town
    * put dry washing away
    * cut out some images out of lidl mag for dgd's craft box
    * check banking

    Ok seems like that will keep me busy! Hope everyone is well & has a good day xxx

    Morning all :)

    Ally, try not to dwell too much. Difficult I know, but sometimes things just don't go right. If you had dealt with it differently, it wouldn't necessarily have been better - just different :(

    Good luck with the interview DNMS. I shouldn't worry about the readvertising thing, probably something to do with their HR systems (I used to have to recruit for where I worked, and the system hindered rather than helped :(

    CLF, hope the funeral goes as well as is possible for these things :(

    Today's list:
    Off to the next town to the market shortly. Also look in on the weekly antiques fair in search of suitable stock for my unit. I have lots in at the moment and not much is shifting, so will only buy real bargains - no bargains, no purchases! I will buy some potatoes and fruit at the market though :)Bought a couple of small bits at the antiques fair, plus potatoes, tomatoes, bananas and peppers (loads of them for £4 the lot :)) at the market. So much cheaper AND nicer than the supermarket!

    HM meals from stores Done, plaice and Hairy Bikers potato wedges for supper today - their recipe only uses 1 teaspoon of oil :D

    Used stewed plums from the freezer with my porridge and yogurt this morning instead of a bought banana or apple (though I now have piles of bananas....)

    Check banks Done, main one is looking a bit squeaky this month due to having to pay out for OH's vehicle tax and insurance :eek: We will get round it by spending less on food - no hardship, as we have loads in. So, just essential groceries from the supermarket and any veg and fruit that we don't have in the freezer or garden from the market :)

    Pop into sales unit to see if any restocking needed for the weekend - unlikely, as I am not having a particularly good month :(Unfortunately no restocking needed :( Tidied up a bit though.

    Walk and groom pup later Done, when it eventually stopped raining. Pup is so small that he isn't good with puddles :rotfl:

    Make a batch of scones to use up milk on the turn (and in response to urgent requests from OH and baby GD :rotfl:) Done, cooked them at the same time as the potato wedges, so no extra gas used :A

    A few surveys for onepoll
    FPL
    Postal survey tasks

    And a confession to make (food waste alert :eek:) :o I found a bottle of marinade in the larder, don't know where it came from as I make my own marinades, and wouldn't have bought it. Maybe DD left it here - but its use by date was June 2013, and I didn't fancy it anyway, so binned it :o

    I am sure there is more, so will pop back later to update. Hope everyone has a positive day :)

    So glad to hear from you Bob - we were all getting worried! I think your body is telling you to slow down a bit - it has this way of letting you know when you're overdoing things. K x

  • Good morning all!!

    Yesterday was my first post in a "small DFW things will you be doing today?" thread, so I'm trying to keep the habit going.

    I didn't manage to get through my list yesterday due to being called into babysit so my sister-in-law could go and see Spectre (lucky sods)! Also...I was starving at lunch and my soup just didn't fill me so I had to buy a buttered baguette for 90p which was so annoyed at myself for because I was determined to spend £0 on lunches this week!!

    So my tasks today look like;

    - brought my breakfast and lunch into work which id usually buy so I've saved myself £5-£7 already and I'll refrain from nipping to the cafe across the road this time!
    - take pictures and plan selling bits and bobs on eBay.
    - bookmark a list of companies job vacancies page so I can start to frequently check for a better paid job in a company I WANT to work for.
    - organise a Christmas list of who I am buying for and what I am buying so that I can budget from Nov and Dec pay.
    - go to the gym and use the shower and shower gel/shampoo/hairdryer there.
    - prep my breakfast and lunch for tomorrow
    - create my budget for the month of November now that I've been paid.

    Hope everyone has a lovely day and I will update later tonight. I think I'm addicted to this website!!
