Cars with LPG
Hi Everyone,
I hope you are well.
Do you know if any legislation has changed re LPG conversions?
I have googled this term and it seems to be nearly dead in UK.
It is sad that this technology has very little recognition in this very CO2 concerned country and government.

They are only interested in CO2 when it comes to using it as an excuse to get you to pay extra tax.
Its not as widespread because a lot of modern cars do not have the room in the engine bay for the kit and it adds weight to the car. A cars fuel tank weighs very little especially the plastic ones. LPG tanks are heavy.
Still plenty of LPG installers around.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Most insurers want to see an online approval (via LPGA) certificate or will want a copy of certificate of approved installation before agreeing cover.
Its very niche, which suits those of us that use it, and most people only view the figure on 'payback' terms where they may not see any benefit (profit) from bearing in mind how often people replace their cars in this throwaway society.0 -
People would rather buy a new car to save money, than spend money on converting an older car to LPG.
In other words, people want new cars because of the social stigma attached to owning an older one.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

My Bro has had several LPG converted cars, the tanks are small so the range is not great (less than 200 miles)0 -
Hi again,
Thank you for your replies.
@gilbert and sullivan
I like the term "throwaway society"
You are right.
@strider590
About "social stigma" you have mentioned.
I am in the minority that thinks differently.
I suspect that if this car renting, leasing continues people will keep changing cars more and more often like iPhones every 5-6 months these days.
You cannot develop an attachment to a thing you don't even own. Too bad more and more people are on this so called "consumer fast track". I am not following this trend.
I have a car with 60l (50l capacity) tank and can achieve 250 miles on 190hp engine under the bonnet.
I know that this is not popular in UK, but it is in continental Europe. By the way there is very useful map of LPG stations in UK and to be honest I really like to plot my route from one station to another.
Last year I was even refilling at the small airport queuing with tiny planes.0 -
I only have 185 and can do over 500 miles on a 58 litre tank, unless i am towing my caravan then i only get 420 miles (ish)
There are lots of LPG stations if you look, some are not advertised very well though. A local ESSO station does LPG but it doesnt show up on any may or search.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I wouldn't have any other type of car.
There is an app called myLPG.eu for finding garages that sell LPG.
If you take an LPG car abroad remember you will need adapters to gas up.
Normal garages won't touch the LPG system on a service and it can be difficult to get a service. I found a great guy in Hampshire, pifuel@aol.com0 -

Do you take off and then glide for another 200 miles?
I am very curious0 -
58 L = 12.75 gallons.
So work it out on 12 gallons x 45mpg = 540 miles. Easily done in a Diesel
Recently done 300 miles with the caravan for a long weekend and even with a bit of driving around whilst there i still have 1/4 of tank left.
Without the van i should get well over 500miles from the tank.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I understand now, lpg is burning much faster, but it is much cheaper,
once upon a time diesel was that cheap, half price to unleaded, but one day someone decided to level it with the competitor,
I cannot explain why this happened
it make sense like a price of 100g raw meat is higher to a 100g hot pork chop on a plate.0
