I know whatiffery is usually pointless, and I promise I am not succumbing to doom mongering, but a second floor flat in a hilly area would bother me a bit. I was pottering along, not much older than you, when out of a clear blue French sky (holiday) came the autoimmune elves. Then two years ago the unprovoked embolism.
A stairlift rescued me from the worst immobility, but a flat with presumably stairs outside your front door would be really tricky.
Have you ever thought of a house?0 -
Why buy a flat when you could own your own HOUSE.:j0

House, house, house, house, house, house, house, house, house, house, house, house, house, house, house, house, house, house, house, house, house, house, house, house.
Can you hear me screaming. :rotfl:0 -

Whatiffery might seem pointless but I actually think it's a good game to play. We simply never know what the fates have in store for us.
Sadly ..........as you say Wendym......change can be swift and without warning or mercy.
AC. You already have health issues. You have had a taste of what it means to be weak and frail.
I sincerely hope you get well and strong and fit and healthy again. However, even if you do regain full strength and capability, then barring miracles, you won't get any younger.:rotfl: You need to plan ahead.
The secret to aging well and maintaining freedom and independence is to ensure your accommodation can adapt to changing needs, both financial and physical. You live alone, so it is imperative you think about how you will care for yourself if mobility becomes an issue.
The more practical your accommodation and living arrangements then the more likely you will be able to avoid the dreaded nursing home.
The type of flats you are looking at just don't fit the bill.0 -
