Maybe it might be time to consider a bungalow, wendym???

I was thinking this too, Wendym, either that or that stairlift needs replacing. You are fortunate in that your OH is on hand. It doesnt bear thinking about how you would cope otherwise.

Similarly living on the upper floors of fiats. The same potential pitfalls. This was the reason I had to sell our Spanish apartment.

TBH it's only my years caring for my wheelchair bound husband that opened my eyes to these kind of issues but I have to say that I am now very conscious of just how much property is woefully inadequate at meeting the needs of people who are either elderly or disabled.

It is something which is underpinning my search for my next property - just in case. I'm aware that although I'm ok now, fully mobile and in fine fettle, my health could change quite quickly.

There are a couple of threads on the over 50s board that discuss the issues around changing needs as we get older and less mobile. Lots of tips and advice.

Just gave chase Buchanan a call. The notes they have is exchange today or in 2 weeks time . They're getting back to me later.
Felt groggy, but now fine :)

Just spotted 3 posts simultaneously. Yeah, I'm gonna do nothing now, just wait.

    Thanks

    With apologies where relevant:

I grew up in one, then my mother moved to another one, and my brother now lives in one. They depress the heck out of me.

Just spoke to senior technical manager re stairlift (which they have completely replaced). He knew immediately what the problem is, and it will be sorted today!

A positive start to the day on all fronts. Key set one in pocket of rarely worn mac; set two in peg bag.

    Again apologies where relevant:

As my daughter asked twenty years ago - "if Dad ever does start to lose mental faculties, how will we know?"

I know what you mean, wendym, I grew up in one, too and always longed for stairs, they seemed like the height of luxury to me. Keys in pegbag also ringing bells; this is getting spooky.

I hope the stair lift is fixed very soon... I am so sorry but I can no longer contain this: Perhaps, on the next engineer's visit, you could consider sharing your crisps; it might be safer all round. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I do hope this is taken in the spirit it is intended.

    Thanks Wendy
I'm angry at nationwide right now, and could do with some advice:
Went to branch in the city.Told phone up no. On back of my card .
I did that . One guy was keeping me on hold apologetically .
He asked the 'banking team'They said my account is not allowed .
A loan is not possible either . I asked for them to send me an email so I can complain . I have 2 flex accts ( 1 current /1 savings). Also a isa with about £15 in it .
So what now , payday loan? Need about £5,000 ( deposit/ removal etc)

Payday loans should be a VERY last resort. Are credit cards an option? The interest rates would be way lower. Have you tried the eligibility calculators on here to see your likelihood of acceptance, AC? I'd start with the 0% ones and go from there.

There are also loan eligibility calculators. I believe loan interest rates are at an all-time low. Any possibility whatsoever of your brother(s) standing as guarantor(s)? That would bring the rate down/limit up.

What are your grounds for complaining to the Nationwide? If they don't consider you a good risk, that is their prerogative; credit is not a right but a privilege.

With any/all of the above options, you would need to explain that you will be able to repay the debt in full in a matter of weeks, just as soon as your sale completes. I would have thought you could pay the deposit from the proceeds anyway; we did. Moving costs are another matter, hence the credit card suggestion.

Anyone else have any ideas to help AC? HTH.
