Motorola Moto G 3rd Generation

Hi All,

I have never had a smart phone before (just a bog standard 2g Samsung GT e1270) but I have not bought a gadget for a while so thought I might treat myself to the Moto G 3. Smart phone.

I make few phone calls or texts and would use it mainly to connect to the internet when I am out and about. So what is important to me is data, as cheap as possible, of course. (2 Gig a month, or thereabout).

I have read a lot of the posts on this forum and it seems to me that data does not come cheap. I have taken note of the EE Christmas deal for £10 and 100 gig of data but surely that is only a short term Beano and not something you could plan on using long term?

I do have a Mifi and I can get 6 Gig sim cards, valid for three months.for about £15. So what I was thinking was I could maybe use the Moto 3 in conjunction with the mifi to get on line and just use an Asda sim card for the phone to make phone calls.

Does this seem a viable proposal? Will it actually work? Does anyone else do this? It would cut my data costs by half and enable me to make use of a gadget I already have.

Yes, you can. I'm doing it right now.

You will, of course, have to carry both the phone and the mifi with you.

Though I would say that I have a Moto G 2g 4G (too many Gs! - gen 2, LTE) but I've just bought my wife a Moto E 4G (gen) and it's equally as good, and cheaper than mine. The Moto G (gen 3) is not significantly better than either of them.

I would point out that that camera on any of them is [STRIKE]not very good[/STRIKE] rubbish.

If that's important to you then I suggest you look elsewhere.

Thanks for reply Zen. Yes, it would mean carrying both phone and mifi but the mifi is small and I am hoping they will both fit in the pockets easily enough. I do have a couple of tablets but they don't fit in the pocket and this is the reason for me going down this path.

I am not bothered about the camera but those other two phones you mentioned look interesting and I will have a look at them.

    Although still not brilliant.

The camera on the new Moto G 3rd generation is a big improvement on the 2nd gen.
