night sweats

Jenniewb - you must be psychic. I did have a derm appointment booked for early Jan but although they made the booking the team told my GP that I'd be better off being seen by the endocrinology department so GP cancelled the derm appointment and I'm now going to see an endo in a few days. Exciting times ;-)
Thanks for the update! Am still jumping through pathetically ridiculous hoops my GPs have thrown at me and am trying to work out the cause myself and getting nowhere! I hope they get answers for you.0 -
Keeping this updated for anyone who searches this issue in the future. Had my apt - doc checked my breathing, felt tummy, checked weight and height, looked at the bloods I had done at GPS late 2015. Sent me for complex blood tests and would have had me do chest x-Ray but I had one recently for something else so I told him it was all clear. What i also had to do which was not fun was collect urine for 48hrs for testing. Also asked about smoking and drinking and changes in finger or toe sizes.
Got another visit to talk through results soon.0 -
Can I assume youv tried the obvious, having a late bath/shower then lots of deoderant? If that dosent work try Oderban, or anhydrol Forte which are aluminium chloride formation, be aware these are very strong & might make you itch. After a while you body learns not to sweat.(hopefully)0

I do shower in the evening about 9pm as it happens when back from the gym. I also use sports deodorant. But there's definitely something wrong and i want to find out the cause rather than only attempt to cover up symptoms. Its as if my body's thermostat has broken. I don't usually look forward to any kind of doctor's appointment but am this one.0 -
If it's not just around that time of the month, it could be a hormone imbalance.
your contraceptive method of choice could be an issue and should be addressed by your doc.0 -
try a battery powered fan also sleeping in the bare min try taking a warm shower 2 hours before sleep and drink 1 pint of water before you go to sleep0

Totally agree with you on this one Cazs! I wanted to say that I've also done the cool-bath-before-bed-and-lots-of-deodorant but just end up in a sticky sweet smelling mess in the early hours rather than just a watery mess! (Deodorant and lots of sweat is a very odd mix and doesn't do what you expect it to do!) With respect roddydogs,I really don't think you have a clear picture on just how much sweat/water we are talking about here- it's not like a gym session, it's beyond a joke water loss.
I can only compare it to leaving a swimming pool minus my hands and feet being covered in water. I'd also say that oddly, there is no bad sweat smell. I do and have gone to the gym and it doesn't smell great- don't get me wrong I do have sweat with an odour at times but for some bizarre reason it's not when I have a night sweat (I say this after the times where I've had to change my night clothes and sheets but been unable to wash things until the next day; unlike a gym kit I'd need to carry back from the gym to wash, a day old load of soaked sheets (and they are still soaked even 24+ hours after a night sweat!) unlike that of the gym kit, the night clothes do not smell of sweat. I find this odd.lookingforthebestdeals wrote: »try a battery powered fan also sleeping in the bare min try taking a warm shower 2 hours before sleep and drink 1 pint of water before you go to sleep
I wanted to reply to this because I also have the same issue- I've tried the warm (and cool) shower before bed etc. I've also tried the cool fan but often will still wake covered in sweat (or water if it's not sweat) but shivering. To be honest, it will be the shivering which wakes me up- even without a fan rather than the night sweat itself. I also sleep with the window open, (even when it's freezing cold outside) though this is due to trying to prevent damp and condensation as much as hoping it reduces a night sweat.
I find it odd that I always wake up freezing cold and shivering, I've no idea why which again makes me wonder if it's actually sweating or something else but short of not being a specialist, I've no idea what else it could be or if anyone would actually know as I've spoken to so many medics who all acknowledge it's a big issue for many but have no idea what exactly causes it or why or seem the lest bit interested in finding out what. Considering the problems this has on my daily life and likely many others, I can't understand why more research is not done. I wont bore everyone with details but it would be life changing if I were able to stop the night sweats or at least know what was going on and why.
I drink plenty too- I actually worry I drink too much. After having blood tests done recently it was shown that my sodium count which indicates how hydrated I am, was low and this meant I was possible over-hydrated. If anything I should probably drink less though I find it very difficult to do this as I get very hungry last thing at night and drink rather than eating as I do worry there could be a link between eating late and disturbed sleep and I already struggle with sleeping at night.0 -

Wish my GP would have done tests when I asked! I was told that it was not possible to test my hormone levels at TTOTM because it would simply show raised hormones but that this would be normal and no way to test what was going on. I was a bit baffled by this but tbh, the night sweats happen throughout the month, not just at TTOTM and I'm unsure if that would be the connection for me; they're no worse when I am on a period as to when I am not. (And I'm not on the pill either so am pretty sure it's not that; however they do say our water generally has higher hormone levels these days due to people taking the pill but this affects everyone not just me!)0 -
Back from the hospital and results are all clear. Major sad face. Was pinning my hopes on identification of some hormone imbalance and being told take this medicine and it'll sort itself out.
I'm therefore discharged from there care and going to be referred back to my GP.
Apparently there's one specialist in central London he'll suggest I see but other than that...0
