It's such a comfort to me that others think I did the right thing.
I really did agonise about it. It felt like I was killing her. Seeing her lying there no longer breathing will haunt me forever but I knew it was the kindest and last thing I could do for her, because her pain was becoming obvious and it wasn't fair to let her suffer. I loved her far too much to allow that to happen to her.0 -
Just wanted to send big hugs, it's always the hardest decision in the world to make, she'll always be with you in spirit dxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0

Does it help to say focus on all the dogs (and cats) who have not had the same forever home Lucy had for 13 years? I have an almost 11 year old dog and know she probably won't won't outlive me, I feel your pain (eyes leaking). Thankfully, with lots of cuddles, your younger dog will probably get over the loss before you do. It's okay to grieve.“And all shall be well. And all shall be well. You loved her and because of that you didn't want to see her suffer. That is the bravest and best thing we can do for our fuzzy ones.
You will always love her and she will always live in your heart. *hugs*

As others have already said it is far far better to let your beloved pet go earlier rather than later, we have that ability to let them go without suffering so you absolutely made the right decision, don't beat yourself up.
You need to remember all the good times. She was a really good age.
You also need to grieve.
If you have the chance go to see friends who understand and sob in their kitchen!
hey, I've got tears trickling down my face remembering just how it felt.
As to your 'boy' you may well find that you need to find another companion in the not too distant future. I have had grieving dogs who were lost without their best buddy and 3 months down the line we went dog hunting.
Sorry for your loss.....it is very hardBeing polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Aw zaksmum, heartfelt sympathies to you and lucys little brother. I too had to have my 15 and a half Labrador pts 4 weeks ago this sunday. I keep telling myself that I did the right thing and I know in my heart that I did but it is so heartbreaking and you can't help but feel the guilt. She hadn't eaten for two days so rang the vets on that sunday morning and met him at the surgery. She was suffering from kidney failure. I have her ashes and will scatter them where we scattered mums ashes. Heartfelt hugs to you. xxx£12,432 - debt free February 2018 :j0

{{hugs Zak's Mum}} This is never an easy time - but remember the mantra "better a week too early than a day too late". It's heartbreaking to make the decision that today is the day for a much beloved pet - but at least we do have that priviledge. Sadly, in the last five years, I've had to watch my beloved OH die slowly from pancreatic cancer, and - nine months later, been able to take his much loved dog, Thor, to the vet to give him release when I could see that, at age 13 1/2, he could no longer cope with his hip dysplacia and auto-immune disease.
Thor went gently, on my knee, and now his ashes were scattered (shush - not supposed to happen) on my OH's grave.
Now, I'm looking at my oldest lab, Freya, who is 12 1/12, she is getting stiffer and stiffer, but hopefully, she's still got more time with me.
Loving dogs is not an easy thing. xxx0
