Have downloaded Win 10 /64 (took less than 15 mins) - now laptop trying to download Win 10 updates and not having much success !!
So far - it has been 30 mins with nothing happening
Grrrrrrr !!0 -
Latest cumulative updates may help (but I doubt it from what you're saying!)
(IE may be needed) http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=KB31055140 -

IE 11 is now installed...0 -
I understand that, in order to update to Win 10 - the previous OS (Win 7 in this case) needs to be fully updated ...
Since this installation refuses to update - is there any way round this problem ?
ie) A clean install ?0 -
You can upgrade to 10 from any version of 7 or 8 (patched or not!) using the Windows 10 ISO (see my sig which leads you by the hand to download the ISO and write to DVD/USB).
At present you have to upgrade first before you can do a clean install (all to do with licensing/activation although they're changing that...). Your current upgrade problems may mean that the "upgrade via ISO" mechansim may also fail but I'd give it a go. (But make sure you have a belt and braces backup of existing 7 installation+data;)0 -

Thanks - trying that now !!
And I assume that you are referring to https://www.thurrott.com/windows/windows-10/7122/windows-10-fall-update-is-set-for-november-release for the licence issue ?0 -
It appears to be upgrading OK - at the moment - it is at 23% complete - taking a VERY long time though !!
I had the choice of an "upgrade" or "clean install" using the previous link.
I am assuming that if it wasn't going to let me upgrade, it would not have got this far ?0 -
Yes,...I assume that you are referring to https://www.thurrott.com/windows/windows-10/7122/windows-10-fall-update-is-set-for-november-release for the licence issue ?
"Activation changes. As previously reported, Windows 10 Fall Update will support activating with your PC’s Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 product key. For this to work, the key must match the edition of Windows 10 using the same upgrade matrix."
I'm guessing this gives a clean install path without upgrading first.0 -
