Hi,
I did a quick search for this but couldn't anything specific, does anybody have any recommendations re restaurants in the general Orlando/Kissimmee/Davenport area. We are off to Florida 1st September and have been before but would like to try different restaurants.
Thanks

shoney's for breakfast! Sets you up for the day.0

Uggh, sorry but I thought Shoney's was gross!
It's chain, the one I went to was on the 192, & I'd avoid it like the plague.
It's mostly fast food & chains out there. The Olive Garden is good if you like Italian. Try Texas de Brazil (at top of I-Drive North) for a BBQ all you can eat meat-fest with a Brazilian twist (not so good for veggies, they do some fish though). Cheesecake factory is good too (not just for dessert, their mains are excellent).
I've also heard good things about Cracker Barrel if you like traditional American style (especially breakfast) but never tried one myself.
If you're used to fine-dining you might struggle a bit. Also after a while you just want to eat salad & fresh fruit! Try Sweet Tomatoes.
The best guidebook I've had is called 'A Brit's Guide to Orlando'. It truly was indispensible. Highly recommended & if you get one make sure you follow all the 'Brit tips' - they really do work.0 -
Ponderosa - fantastic breakfast buffet but also good at the other end of the day, various main courses (steak being our favourite) with anything from the buffet, which offers a very wide and varied selection. Excellent value for money and friendly staff but so good its usually busy. Usually get given a coupon for discount off next visit. Can also often pick up discount coupons from the coupon booklets available almost everywhere!
Have a great time!0 -
used the one on i drive once when there in 2004 absolute !!!!!!0

Outback Steahouse - Nice warm bread, soup, steaks
TGI Fridays - Similar to UK but cheaper and much much better
Bahama Breeze - Lots of people rave about this, there's one at LBV0 -
The Butchers shop on I-Drive Mecardo centre if you like Steak.

I'm not sure whether you're looking for cheap and cheerful or fine dining, but some of my favourites include:
Chillis
Romano's Macaroni Grill - I like Olive Garden as well but prefer MG
Cracker Barrel
Bahama Breeze
Perkins
Tchoup Tchop at Royal Pacfic Resort (Universal)
Ruth's Chris Steakhouse
Earl of Sandwich at Downtown Disney
Wolfgang Puck Cafe at Downtown Disney
I used to rave about Denny's and Shoney's for the price but recent trips have been disappointing so I'm hesitant to recommend.0 -
Ignore the previous poster, avoid the Ponderosa like tha plague! Horrible, horrible place with really bad quality food - even if it is all you can eat.
Good restaurants we went to in the I-Drive area include The Olive Garden for a really nice Italian, TGI Fridays for great grill food that's tons cheaper than in the UK, Dennys for breakfast, Sbarro for a good take out/eat in pizza. Oh and Hooters for the Baps (burger baps) :rotfl:

For breakfast our favourite is Bob Evans it's on the 192 near the junction for SR535. I'd heared good things about the Cracker Barrel and we tried it last time but it wasn't as good as Bob Evans, but there gift shop is really nice to look around.
TGI Fridays & Bennigans are pretty good. So too is Kobe Japanese steak house I love their Teppanyaki dinner where it's all cooked in front of you on the big table.
The Rain Forest Cafe at Downtown Disney is good too but always really busy - They have an outside seating area though and If you're happy to sit there you can usually walk straight in through the little side entrance.
Friend took us to Wolf Gang Pucks again at Downtown Disney and it was good too, if it's not too busy they let kids make their own Pizza, which is a bit of a novelty for them.
We're tried a couple of the Outbacks and to be honest have been disappointed with the main courses, (steaks cremated and lack of presentation) but we keep going back - love their bread and the blooming onion. The one opposite Premium outlets was better than the one in Kissimmee though.
Tried Ponderosa once for breakfast, it was OK, but have never been back. Other half isn't keen of buffets and we much prefer Bob Evans if we eat out for breakfast.0 -
We loved Rainforest Cafe at Downtown Disney. Character Breakfast at the Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom, Sizzler on International Drive and for cheap and cheerful, the various stalls in the Mercado on I drive, Especially the Butchers Shop for steak.0
