Growing garlic as perennial

That makes sense, but is ok if it works so you get new garlic every year.It doesn't. You have to leave some cloves in the ground to grow on again for the next year.
With this system, it's the bed that's 'perennial', rather than the plants, in that you continue to grow garlic in the same place year after year.2016 Money challenge - £2900 -

Which is possibly a bad idea, because we are taught to rotate crops where possible, to avoid disease build-up and the depletion of particular nutrients.0 -
I grew Garlic for the first time last year, i never realised it could be perennial. A few weeks ago i sent for some more cloves and as i was planting them i thought what's the difference between these and if i'd gone the supermarket and bought a bunch ? They looked the same but i'd paid more.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

The supermarket garlic might have been grown on the continent and so not the best variety for the UK.
But once you have your own, you're set up for good....unless you eat them all!0 -

True, i get a feeling all this mild will change suddenly and be very cold. But i couldnt believe how it had grown so much, i didnt think it should have been coming up yet!The weather has been very mild this winter.
Some plants will struggle when the cold comes in because their growth hasn't had the normal autumn chills to harden off.2016 Money challenge - £2900 -
I've grown garlic from supermarket bulbs. The starter bulbs were big fat ones. The resulting bulbs were far smaller, but with a much more concentrated flavour.0
