Day trip to London - unbelievable tube costs!

The other thing is, that I don't know the next time we are going to London.
Neither did I, when I bought my Oyster card, but I've been back a good half dozen times since, and it's repaid its cost in usefulness.
Make sure there's enough on it when I leave, and when I arrive next time, there's no faffing about topping it up or getting tickets. It keeps credit permanently.0 -
I suspect part of the sticker shock is from people who don't pay bus fares in their home town as they drive . I pay £3 single for a two mile journey to my nearest bigger town and I don't think that's unusual. I think London buses are a bargain and tube isn't much more and sometimes worth it for speed - although you see far more of London from the top of a bus as well as save money.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I agree. My local buses are expensive. A return to town centre - 2 miles if that - is £4. A 12 mile trip is £10 return. I can travel from Epping to Oxford Circus with my oyster card for around £6. I think that is a bargainThe world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
That does not apply any more, and we nearly got caight out about six months ago. We bought oyster cards at Stratford on the understanding that we would get the deposit back plus any credit, only to find the system has changed (due to fraud apparently), and when we swiped them on the machine it didn't show any credit.
We were told by station staff that you cannot claim the refund the same day, which is absolutely no use to us as we do not live in London:(
Andy, sorry if I'm being a bit thick but why didn't you just top up your Oysters and pay the daily capped fare?0
