NYE in London

Good advice posted here already.
If you plan to go for the ticketed areas, plan a couple of exit routes on foot. Tube stations can be rammed and you might be directed to leave using a route that's not your preferred one.
In any case, parking will be difficult in central London, so you'll probably be best off parking near a station outside of zone 1 (from which direction are you entering London?) and catching a tube / train from there.
If you decide to go unticketed, Primrose Hill is a really good shout. If you're coming in from the north then you should be able to park near Chalk Farm, Camden etc and then walk up the hill.0 -
I did the fireworks in London one night and never will again. Horrendous crowds, you spend a lot longer travelling in than you expect, no entertainment, men peeing against walls, rain, then walking for ages as overcrowding caused the closure of stations that were meant to be open. I know others who've been since and none will do it again. One ended up having to let herself into her workplace to crash until morning as crowds meant she missed her train homeDon't listen to me, I'm no expert!0

There isn't a stress free way of doing it. It's a nightmare, you need to be there hours before hand and it will take at least another hour to get out.
If your son is insistent go for one of the hills mentioned above.
If money is no object you could go for a room at the Marriott County Hall.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
The best view you'll get by far is from your TV...Greenwich is miles from the river area where the event takes place. No free lunch, and no free laptop

One of my sons has lived in London for over ten years and has given up on travelling into the centre for the fireworks due to the time it takes to get home again. Instead, he goes to a local show, in his case on Clapham Common.0
