Good evening everyone.
First post and needing some good advice.

The company that i work for like alot of companies has a scheme were you can buy discounted vouchers, gift cards etc. Today i looked on the site and found apple itune vouchers and as i was looking to buy a new phone, i purchased £700 worth of e vouchers (got 70 x £10 evouchers) sent to me by email. To my horror i discovered you cannot use itune vouchers to purchase from the apple online store. I immediately contacted the online chat help within about 15min of getting the vouchers to explain the situation and ask for a refund, but they have refused and wont budge as the said the vouchers have been "viewed" !!
I explained to them its only natural when you get something delivered by email, you click the link that says "view your vouchers now" to make sure you have got the correct ones.

They have said they cannot put them back into stock ( actually dont understand how you can put an evoucher into stock), so i said why cant you just cancel them down and void them, but they wont budge...
When i viewed this offer, i explained to them that i didnt think their website made it clear enuf that you cant use these vouchers on the apple store website, as it says "use online".
apparently they can only be used in the apple "app store online"

To just point out, i didnt actually look at all voucher codes, i just clicked the link as it asked, and i haven't attempted to use a single one

I said i believed that i have been sold a product incorrectly and it not fit for the purpose it was intended for. With the new consumer rights act coming into effect in October, do i stand any chance of having this resolved ?

Thank you for viewing my post , and will gladly accept any advice

regards

Tom

Try a chargeback as you paid by debit card. If you're not sure what this is, see http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/visa-mastercard-chargeback

It's your mistake , they are actually called iTunes vouchers NOT Apple Store vouchers

You cannot buy actual goods from iTunes

You ordered iTunes vouchers and were provided with iTunes vouchers. Not sure how you believe you have been sold a product incorrectly.

You can used the iTunes vouchers to purchase products available on iTunes - as such they are fit for purpose.

I reckon you stand a slim to nil chance of getting a chargeback due to this being user error and nothing else.

You can buy films, TV shows and apps too.

    But yeah, not hardware.
  • Thanks for all your replies.

If i made a mistake, it was a genuine one as i seen the apple logo i assumed the "apple online shop".
There was no mention of that you can only purchase apps with these and not products
I still dont know why they cant just been cancelled down or voided. None of the have been used.

I will speak with my bank on Monday about the chargeback

    Thanks everyone

    Regards

    Tom

I will speak to my bank
  • So what sort of discount was you hoping for buying 70 £10 vouchers?

This is what terms and conditions are for, i generally have a scan if i am making a relatively large purchase.

Keep us updated to see if you are able to cancel with your bank. It will be interesting to see if that is possible.

I would agree with you when you say they could just void the codes, they are probably all computer generated. I guess whoever it is you were dealing with couldn't be arsed to get involved with that or they have a policy to fob people off so that they can make even more money.

Buy a moto g, only 139 quid and wicked ;)

Your bank won't do a chargeback. You made a silly error.

Do you expect the company to go through and cancel 70 codes for free? Expect to pay a hefty cancellation charge if they do honour your request.

Depends if the terms really were misleading. The suggestion of a chargeback is a good one, if only to concentrate the minds of those refusing to cancel the vouchers 'because they've been viewed' (an excuse which makes no sense at all). Cancellation is normally done electronically if a batch of vouchers needs to be pulled, so the effort involved is minimal.

The other route worth considering is having a word with whoever deals with the scheme on behalf of your employer (normally someone in HR). Even if you have made a daft mistake (and we all do that from time to time!), your employer isn't likely to be thrilled with such an unhelpful attitude from the 'reward' company. You won't know unless you ask... By the way, who are they - the voucher company, not your employer.
