So we are almost 3 months in since the Windows 10 launch. Whats the verdict, is it any better than your old Windows 7 or Windows 8 installation?

After the initial furore, has anyone reverted back to Windows 7 or 8 or even Linux? What issues have you come across, old and existing? Is Microsoft Edge being used as the default browser by anyone?

So interested to know users experiences

(Got it installed on my new laptop I have started fully using yet, not convinced its better than Windows 7 for me yet.)

Works perfectly. Faster and better than 7 or 8.
I see no point in reverting back to an old OS. Very happy with W10.

Drives me mad. It keeps selecting web pages I don't want if my curser hovers too long over a link or picture etc. Don't know why it does this.

if set up incorrectly , ie: user accepting default settings , you have read all the posting showing how to disable the default features , if you cannot be harrissed doing as suggested , then that is your fault!

As I only use Chrome for browsing and Thunderbird for email I don't really notice much difference going from 7 to 10. Tried edge browser once then downloaded chrome as it was pants. I still have 8.1 on my other laptop and I quite like it but again only use Chrome & Thunderbird.

Windows 10 is horrible. Major privacy issues; an ugly, bloated, unconfigurable UI; no proper "start" menu; enforced advertising; and no improvement over Windows 7.

So I'm sticking with Windows 7 as my "standby OS" and Arch Linux as the main one. I still have XP installed (which has the best UI out of all Windows OSes), but I only ever use it to run my backup software which isn't compatible with post-XP OSes.
  • I was running Win 10 until the computer went down with a malware attack. Now I am back with Windows 7.

I liked the email client on Windows 10 but now that I have downloaded "Windows Live Mail", (thanks to "Oblivion"), Windows 7 has everything I need.

Although Windows 10 is fairly easy to navigate; Win 7 is less complicated and does not require user intervention to tweak the privacy settings. On balance I prefer Windows 7.

Incidentally, although I had Windows 10 on for over a month, when I reverted to Windows 7 I just clean re-installed it and it was validated no problem. Now I am getting nagged to download and install Windows 10 again. I already have a backup copy of course.

It also ate my dog and ran away with my wife.

    I liked my dog too.

I guess it's a generation thing....but your description is not really accurate. Others have a different experience entirely.

Works a treat here, I upgraded from 8.1, which I also didn't mind (albeit with Classic Shell installed).

Everything works for me, and nothing has given me any issues as far as stability or function. If you're concerned about privacy (Google, Facebook, et al anyone?) then install one of the Win 10 privacy tools. Another big update is due in November which may bring more features etc.

I think most of the hate is because lots of people just don't like change, and it's fashionable to bash MS.

One thing that is a mess though is Edge, and add-ons aren't going to be coming until next year apparently, MS are missing the boat on that.
