I questioned this on my recent bike insurance policy, docs only mentioned 'SD & P'. Turns out (with my insurers) this does include commuting to a single place of work and if I had chosen to exclude this, the docs would have said something along the lines of 'SD & P excluding commuting'.
  • Vary good points, and an important point for workers who commute to different sites, even if its the same company.

I only have to work at another depot once in a blue moon, discussed this with my insurer and they have noted the system and i'm covered, but otherwise as stated above, you generally need business use for more than one commute destination.
  • I have SD & Commuting insurance. Once in a blue moon I might be required to transfer stock from one branch to another but doesn't happen often.

I did have business cover once when I was with Admiral but I don't with my current insurer.

What cover is needed if you dont actually commute to work but to a car park/public road where you then get a train to work?

I would imagine this still requires "commuting" cover - but phone your insurer to double-check. As above, insurers vary and always best to make sure you're covered for what you're doing.

Does commuting count if you drive to work once in a blue moon so you can onwards travel. For example, going to doctors after work so I commute in the morning but not every day or once a week.
  • Insurers ask too many vague questions, like where do you park during the day, where do you park at night etc. Well it all depends!

Depends if you have a cushty 9-5 job and everything else you do is timed to a set routine.

I have Business use on both of my cars and my wife also has it on hers, i find it makes very very little difference to the price but of course that may depend on the employment you are in

It depends on insurer. My driving to/from single place to work is included under SD&P (checked several times small print).

I'm not sure that you need to do that - but it would depend on your insurer, of course.

At one time I was a 'Supply Teacher/Lecturer' and travelled to several different colleges pretty much at random as the need arose.

I explained this to my insurers and they were quite happy with it - simply as 'commuting' - they didn't even need a list of the possible addresses/locations.

Yes but to one location for the day?
    Fine.
However I often attend one office, then have to travel to another through the course of my day.
    Business miles
